How did sex become so taboo? What about masturbation? It's a perfectly natural and normal thing. It's actually a very beautiful thing that our bodies have the ability to do. All animals do it. Why does christianutty make it out to be such a taboo thing?

Its a matter of selection of the most powerful idea.

A religion which sells salvation only becomes powerful when it can convince people that they are sinful and in need of salvation. The easiest way to convince people they are sinners is to make our most powerful natural drive (sex) a sin. Practically nobody can resist having sexual urges, so everyone becomes a sinner and everyone is a potential convert to a religion of salvation.

There were other Christian traditions which did not emphasize sin and salvation. These lost out to the forms of christianity that used the coersive idea of sex equalling sin.

Sexuality wasn't considered taboo in ancient Rome (at least, for males). In fact, it was encouraged amongst Roman men to have sex with male and female prostitutes, and slaves. Sex amongst Greeks, Romans, and Pagans was considered natural and normal.

Originally Judaism, then later Christianity, and finally Islam, all brought forth holy books that condemn sex outside of marriage. Many believe it was done to distance themselves from the practices of the Greeks, Romans, and Pagans. Some consider it a regional/societal thing, that was written into the Hebrew Bible (and later the New Testament).

Sex is not taboo..why do so many people say that? If it was...then all the religious people would die out...right? Religious people, Christians...enjoy sex...it's a gift from God. Sex gives us intimacy, love, and children.

Sex outside the sacrament of marriage...is taboo. Masturbation is a sin as well...something that we desire to do "naturally" is not necessarily acceptable. God calls us away from our natural inclination to sin. He calls us to holiness through his Son's sacrifice.

The idea that "we are born this way" or "God made me this way" is really a lazy way of saying, I want to do what I want to do and make it okay. Sin is not acceptable or justifiable...ever. We sin...but we need to repent and seek Christ, to move deeper into his sacred heart and become what we were intended to be.

I am a Christian..The bible talks about only having sex with your spouse. It never says that sex is bad...Sex is good but only when shared with your spouse....i think sex is a beatutiful and amazing thing! I think that sex is awesome and is fun and feels great. God made people and God made sex, God made our bodies able to have orgasams!....But, sex should only be shared between people who are married to each other. I dont judge people because they have sex before they are married, that is their buisness, but i do think that people should wait. Sex should be shared between 2 people who are married who have a commitment to spend the rest of their lives together....
My husband and I were both virgins when we were married and our wedding night was so amazing. I wouldnt trade that night for anything in the world. It was intimate because I knew that we were giving each other ourselves for the first time. It is really beautiful. and it is fun!!! :)
....just think of how amazing it would be to have your first ever orgasam with your new wife or husband?!! What an intimate and great thing to share with them to start your lifelong marriage together!
I hope this helps! Have a great day!!! :)

Sex is a beautiful thing that God created to fulfill both a man and a womens needs in the area of marriage. We are created in the image of God and have carnal instincts-like to fulfill what our body wants-Masturbation seeks to self gratify our own body - when one who practices this feels the taboo thing afterwards, its really their God given consious that this telling them this is not right.

I think it also depends on the sect or tradition you talk to. Most people think that as long as you are married there are no holds barred. Which if you're doing it right, that's how it should be.

It is a right to view things conservatively or liberally.

I take it, then, you are in favor of LEGAL PROSTITUTION

That you're HUSBAND or BOYFRIEND can get it by paying for it on demand with or without your knowledge

And when YOU deny it for some reason they can WALK OUT AND GET IT and snicker at you!

That is the ULTIMATE LIBERAL VIEW

If YOU have the AUDACITY to DRAW A LINE in the sand over your HUSBAND or BOYFREIND, then YOU have just become a Christian Prude.

It is not taboo, have you ever read Song of Songs, the Song of Solomon in the Bible. It is not taboo, God simply tells us that it is beautiful and special and should be saved for sharing with the one person we are married to.

I have been married and faithful for 22 years. It get more beautiful when we share ourselves God's way.

As for masturbation, pleasing ourselves makes intimacy between two people more selfish and less about giving.

No big deal, if you don't have the same convictions, or the same relationship with God than I don't expect you to behave according to mine. So quit judging me.

It's perfectly normal and healthy to abstain from sex and masturbation as part of your faith. If it wasn't, why then all these celibate Catholic priests would be going crazy and molesting little kids or something.... oh... wait...
