I went to Manhattan today from Brooklyn (where I'm from) and it hit me that Manhattan and the other boroughs are completely different worlds. Don't get me wrong, I understand the Manhattan is where most (not all) of the stuff happens. Walking around, I saw MANY people from other states/countries and I even met people from California and Missouri and I couldn't relate because they're not from N.Y.

I have a new found respect for TRUE New Yorkers living outside of Manhattan because they would never stick their furniture in a Manhattan apartment. Manhattan is turning into "yuppie central" and I hate it ( I think it's coming into Brooklyn as well). If I ever leave Brooklyn (which I'm sure will never happen), I'll only move my *** Staten Island or Queens.

Am I the only one that feels this way?

Manhattan is pretty crowded and theres lots of people there who aren't even from there, I guess it's safer for a tourist there.hmm. i was born in Manhattan but I was brought to my mamas house(grandmother) in Queens Bridge. Wonderful place. Not too many unfamilar faces in the other boroughs.

I don't live in New York ( I wish I did) but I think it's the fact that you've been in BK so long that you didn't even imagine the rest of NYC being different. To me New York City is it's own country because it's so diverse (Queens, BK, Harlem, etc) they are so different. So many different areas. The slang is different ever area. Your just use to BK style but Manhattan is the money making spot and people do change with money.

Manhattan is where the money is. Most cites like that ARE yuppie central.

Manhattan and parts of Queens (Astoria) are the only nice parts of NYC. Staten Island is (Literally) a garbage dump, The Bronx and Brooklyn are where are the criminals live.

It's all changing, all the time. The Norwegian area of Brooklyn is still there (sort of), but the Asians are moving in now. If you don't like Manhatten, don't go there. Nobody's holding a gun to your head. Move to the Adirondacks, or to north central PA where the white supremacists are. A friend's dad drove truck and said, "I love New York...when I see it in the rear view mirror."
