The politics in NASCAR is making the sport a total "proud sponsor of NASCAR".If a company pays to be called a sponsor of NASCAR it seems they get controll.
Sponsorship for teams is a hard job to secure..Teams have folded because of the lack of sponsorship. Now the politics of NASCAR is attempting to nix a sponsor because of NEXTELL.(I cancelled my NEXTELL today because of this problem,no I did not get AT&T).Now NASCAR is filing a suit.
More than likey if any of the say 5 to 10 larger teams came upwith a sponsor that "conflicted" with the NASCAR powers there would be a "grandfather" clause.
Rule changes to help teams.Rule changes to correct NASCAR errors.
Politics.

Yea I have to agree with you on this,I went through the same thing with XM . I had just renewed my contract for 2 units when Nascar switched. Well I have a cingular/AT&T phone with 3 phones on the contract and I won't switch them. They have been sponsoring racers longer than nextel so Nascar should step back !GO#31!!!!!

Okay first of all I see in this writing is a lot of I's, me's, myself, and basically no one. Take the focus off of yourself. And Lord have mercy upon yourself, stop this negativity about yourself. Wow I challenge you to look at yourself in the mirror and say ten positive things about yourself. You see if you are negative toward yourself, others will be negative toward you as well. People pick that up about you, the way you are putting yourself down and the way you feel so badly toward yourself. Embrace your features and embrace your uniqueness, you will see how much things will be brighter for you. There are things you can change about yourself, and that's to first of all start accepting you as you, and don't be so hard on yourself. Then you can begin to take care of yourself on the outside, once you start taking care of the person on the inside. Start eating a well balanced diet, exercise, don't be afraid open yourself to new hobbies and interests so that you will have more to discuss with others. I believe that you have so much to offer, but you need to see this mate, because you can't be friends with anyone if you can't be a friend to your own self. Appreciate you, and believe that you are a special indivdual and that you have a purpose. Don't worry about the friends and best mates, just focus on accepting yourself right now.

I personally thought the whole Motorola thing was stupid(when they tried to sponser Robby Gordon). Nextel objected to that, Motorola's not even a service provider, it makes phones, including for Sprint/Nextel. Found it funny that Sprint was advertising Motorola Razr phones the other day. RJ Reynolds never seemed to have a problem with Miller Beer, Betty Crocker, or Kraft sponsers even though they're owned by Phillip Morris. God Nextel's annoying.

The team you were referring to was Robbie Gordan's #7{Motorola}. I don't want to sound like a rep for NASCAR but they are in a tight spot. Without nextel who is going to pony up the money to sponsor the series? This sport costs allot of money and the sponsors bring that. Without them there is no NASCAR. If a sponsor is guaranteed brand exclusivity then they should get it, or there money back. then where would leave all of us fans?

Most NASCAR fans are tired of the politics.
NASCAR has become so large in the last seven years that it is hard to call it politics when most decision making is contractually designed and legally inevitable, clause by clause.
Now... did you understand all that?
...politics...
Did you require a contract of XM stating that you would receive NASCAR for an indeterminate period of time?
Uh-uh.
