The technical answer is sure you can. However, good luck finding such an amp. The A/V Receiver Amplifier typically comes with TV/AM/FM tuners and has inputs for TV and DVD Video with other inputs for Phono, etc. The problem in the interface game is the multitude of standards you will need to deal with. Audio ports for driving up to seven speakers is another problem that the A/V amp is designed to handle.

A single channel amp can drive one channel and has no processing. If you are into really high-end (and expensive) audio, you can get use several monoblock amps with a separate processor. You can also hook up your sources to an integrated amp if it has surround sound processing and discrete outputs for each channel. These are hard to find. Most integrated amps are stereo. With a receiver the only thing you get that an integrated amp does not provide is a radio tuner. The A/V receiver has separate amplification for each channel and the proper kind of processing to get surround sound.

Hi there. An Audio /Video Receiver is only required if you want surround sound and a Tuner .You can connect your TV to your DVD player and connect your DVD player to your Amplifier..Actually that is all i am using except i have a special sound processor(A Sonic Hologram Generator) between my Preamp and Power amp to give me a 3 dimensional sound stage with my 2 stereo speakers resulting in far superior sound to what is available with a surround sound Receiver.
