I have a wood chair and some wood tables and I want to paint them a certain color to match a room. I am a professional auto painter and would like to spray the finish. I would also like to clear coat afterwards. I have them sanded and primed. What I am looking to do is something like the black laquer look, but not black. I want a paint that will look good when sprayed, not a latex. I can paint them in a booth so I can spary anything. What are my best choices for paint, and where can I find these paints? I went to Home Depot and they didn't have anything there. I tried finding some paint stores around my house, but could only locate Sherwin Williams.

I really didn't want to use car paint on the home furniture. We use urethane enamel for the clear and is that safe for inside a home?

Here's a story. I own apartments and everyone laughed at me when I went to WalMart and bough semigloss latex paint for the interior. That apartment turned out wonderful and rented quickly. So I painted them all like that. Then the cabinets in the kitchens were looking nasty so I went to WalMart and bought more of the same color and painted the cabinets the same as the walls. After two years and no problems I painted them all that way. Everyone has stopped laughing and started listening. That paint is like putting plastic on the walls and cabinets. My final piece was a yardsale dresser much underpriced. I bought a small can of red paint for the edges and then my usual WalMart paint in greenish blue. I wiped the edges as I painted so that the red peeked thru. It turned out excellent. The cabinets get some pretty good use but not like a table but a clear coat should solve that problem. Just be sure you're not using lead paint. I handpainted everything and it took very little time. My only use of clear coat was for my cabinets. I used a miniwax paint stain and then coats of their clear coat. It was supposed to not change the color-truly clear-and water clean up. It didn't change the color but after maybe a year it started to wear off and my cabinets here now need to be done-again- while the WalMart painted cabinets are just fine.

I would use an oil enamel since you'll be using a pro sprayer, but thin it first. Use a 1/2cup of thinner to 1 gal of paint. I am also a painter, but I paint houses! Well, we've always had good luck with the Rust-o-leum. I know - you're spraying on wood. But this product is oil-based and after several coats, resanding and tacking after each, will do what you want it to.
Check out Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart or similar stores.

as a painting contractor who does everything from residential to commercial to drywall to faux painting and woodfinishing, here is the two products i would reccomend, for the paint use valspars anti rust enamel, if you cannot find it use sherwin williams pro classic enamel,for the clear coat use Mohawk laquer,it is made for residential furniture, if you cannot find that use sherwin williams interior laquer.If you have a valspar or SW contractor store nearby they will have everything you need

is all old coating removed? if not, no problem. She Wil sells a good enamel that can be clear coated, looks good on wood, durable an they make colors.

You are going to kick yourself. The same lacquer you are used to using on cars will work on the furniture. I think you have this under control.
