It has been the practice for more than 10 years now to have altar servers who are either boys or girls. You are misimformed.

Well it would be pretty hard for my daughter to be an altar boy. She's a girl.
But she is an altar girl.
There's a picture of John Paul II somewhere, taken with some of his altar girls. I think that should tell you all you need to know about whether girls can serve.

Any person (male or female) who assists during the celebration of a religious service is called an alter server or acolyte.
In the United States, Women and girls have been alter servers since 1994.
There is no upper age limit.
