Self-discipline is a challenge for most of us. I heard on Oprah this afternoon that there is a great diet called "The Best Life Diet." It's by Bob Greene. It sounded like he had some recommendations on how to stay motivated on a diet. The website is thebestlifediet.com Oprah.com has more, too.
I know I'm going to look into it!

It takes a lifestyle change, and you can't stick to many difficult things at once.
Start small, like taking a walk every day and drinking lemon water instead of soda or crappy diet drinks. Stop eating McDonald's and Taco Bell completely, and go for a deli sandwich or pasta instead. Change up your diet, and try to lean towards organic foods. Don't eat anything with the word "hydrogenated" in the ingredient list, no matter what the flashy words on the front of the package say. Get some expensive, imported dark chocolate from Cost Plus and have a small square for dessert; it's actually GOOD for you.
Find an activity you enjoy doing and use it to set a goal, like running around a nearby lake within a certain time. Again, start slowly and build your way up, making sure to track your progress and recognizing your improvements.
It is VERY important not to beat yourself up for cheating once in a while, as we all have to have that chocolate muffin some days. You work hard, so consider it a reward for being good the rest of the time.
Once you reach your goal, go out to dinner, buy a new outfit, or celebrate in some way that is important to YOU. Be proud of yourself, and start thinking about your next goal.
As you continue, the weight will start dropping, you will get healthy and happy, and your self esteem will grow with each success.

It's a challenge for all of us, even the one's that are successful. The first thing you need to do is sit down and write out what your goals are. Is it to lose weight, to feel better, to change your wardrobe??? What ever the motivation is you need to write it down and then post it somewhere where you can see it everyday. A reminder of what you're trying to accomplish everyday is a great way to stay on track. The second most important thing to do is accept that you may slip and fall along the way, but the overall goal is still in your reach. Start out by eating and exercising most of the week and give yourself one day to eat what you want. Not only will it keep you sane but you will also figure out how much hard work it takes to take off what you put back on. Everything has a price. It takes so much exercise to work off the unwanted inches and you need to measure it. After a couple of weeks or hard work and any kind of results you will feel better about where your headed. The third most important thing is to understand that it takes time to sculp your new and improved body. Rome wasn't built in one day so take your time and realize that you are creating a masterpiece and it takes time to chizel away all the negative ingredients you are so used to. Change should come graduallly and it will be long lasting. If you go to the extreme too fast, you're chances of running out of steam will increase. Good Luck and don't give up!!!

The only possible thing to do and trust me I had to do this is take everyhting out of your house that you know will tempt you and replace it with all healthy foods. Once you go through the first 3-5 days without the junk you won't believe you ever "needed" it in the first place. After the first 2 weeks, when you want something that you trashed from your house, go out and get you a little bite of a candy bar or small bowl of ice cream and consider it your treat for the week. Yoga and Pilates is what I would suggest for exercise. They are good for you and make your body feel so relaxed once you are done. Good luck and all you can do is try, try and try again.
