When Moses confronted the pharaoh, he turned his cane into a snake and the magicians that worked for the pharaoh also did this.

My question is were they able to do this all the time? I heard that the Devil helped them to do it and I was wondering if this was something that was just a one time occasion or if they practiced black arts on a regular basis to get their powers.

I always thought this part of the Bible was interesting when I was a kid because when I first heard about it, I just assumed that you can only bring stuff to life if you are using power from God. This story seems to say that the Devil has that power too, although it is not as strong as God's.

What do you think?

If you have ever watched a modern day magician, then you know that they can make it seem as if a stick has become a live snake.

It is sleight of hand and has been around for longer than anyone of us has.

Now, as for the devil, he has only the powers that God allows him to have for as long as God allows him to have them.
THis knowledge is what the devil forgot in his prideful self examination. He forgot from whence he came, as do we most of the time.

Here is some information about the cane (staff) you mention.

Egyptian staffs used by Pharaoh's were sort of like energy conduits. These staffs were used by Pharaoh's who were highly trained and of high spiritual order, however very few knew how to use them. These staffs are also connected to an Arc. ( at least 3 of them existed at the time). These staffs were "manifestors" and could alter reality. But it was not the staff alone doing the "magic", it was a combination of the staff, the Arc, and the person.

Remember Mosses was to be a Pharaoh and was highly trained on the Egyptian staff and was very good at it.

The staff is also seen as a "crutch" meaning the ones who used it needed an outside tool to perform manifestation, as opposed to a master who could do it internally without any help. (know someone who fits this?)

By the way, the symbolism of the ruling staff has come down through the ages but none of the societies knew of the original use. In fact the later Egyptians even "lost" the knowledge.

Is this too much information for you guys? Oh well!

it is written that God created the devil, and God also controls the devil the devil can do so much, but if he gets carried away thenGod steps in if you read about Job,God allowed satan to do the things he done toJob,God said he could do anything to Job exect to have his Soul because God knew that no matter what Job went through,He would love and worship Him, see we all make choices, the devils just there to help you make the wrong one God Bless

Yes they were satan worshippers. they worshipped idols ie baal, and friends. Any 'god' other than God that can actually do something is satan. He did have the ability to change the staff into a snake--look what he did to Job.

They didn't worship the devil, they were the followers of Horus, the god that was born of a virgin, died on the cross, and then came to life again after three days. In truth, that does not sound too different from what you believe.

Actually Egyptians were poly-theists they worshiped many gods.

The ancient Egyptians believed in many different gods and goddesses. Each one with their own role to play in maintaining peace and harmony across the land.
