I just open to whatever it opens to (why I am using a hand held Bible and not my computer I don't know). It comes up to Ephesians 6 and I look directly at the "subtitle" Armor of God. So I read it and pray about it and I am just not sure why God led me there. But I finally fealt that I should turn to Revelation. I read the first four chapters and the one thing that continued to stick out at me was after John wrote to each church there was promises all saying that if you overcome then something will happen. I interpreted all this to mean that I need to ensure that I am protected by the Armor of God so that I can weather the storm that I am soon to face. What do you all think.

To those who say why just let your Bible open where ever and start reading there. I have never found a place in the Bible that hasn't directly affected me or someone I know. So it is all good then why not just let it fall open and start where you first look. Sometimes I find exactly what I am looking for this way.

Now don't get me wrong I don't study like this all the time...though I have done more of it lately. I read the entire section and all of chapter six together before reading Revelation. And I have read all of Ephesians and all the Epistles before also so I know what is being said overall.

It is kind of funny that not only that I didn't think about this until just now but how it all ties together. The other night I meditated on Matthew 5:13 and some of the things the Lord was speaking to me then about that verse tie hand in hand with what I feel about these verses. My mind is racing at such a fast deep pace that it is hard to explain.

Ephesians 6 is an awesome book to read. My favorite saying is "Keep Up The Good Fight". I consider myself to be a warrior at heart and with Gods armor to protect....I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
P.S. I tend to pray up before studying Gods Word and wherever the pages open I read. Sometimes I understand what I'm reading and sometimes I may have to dig deeper to get a better understanding. As for my husband, the same method of studying works about 100% of the time. God is awesome and I love it when His Word comes alive.
I'll pray for Gods angels to form a hedge of protection around you. Step out in faith and know that God is with you...even until the end of the age.

It very well could be God telling you that your fixing to face a storm. I have prayed to God and opened my bible as you have and see what God says. Sometimes I am still fuzzy where that is him talking or me. So sometimes I look for other signs as well. Like if I hear someone tell me about a storm a they read Ephesians as well. Then I know God is trying to get my attention to Ephesians.

I think that opening the Bible at random will only lead you to find in it what you are looking for. If you want to understand what the Bible actually means, you need to read it on its own terms, which means setting it against its historical context, and reading whole letters, books, and other literary units instead of taking verses and paragraphs out of context. The use of commentaries and other such helps will also make a big difference.

All affirmations are true in some sense, false in some sense, meaningless in some sense, true and false in some sense, true and meaningless in some sense, false and meaningless in some sense, and true and false and meaningless in some sense.

The Aneristic Principle is that of APPARENT ORDER; the Eristic Principle is that of APPARENT DISORDER. Both order and disorder are man made concepts and are artificial divisions of PURE CHAOS, which is a level deeper that is the level of distinction making. With our concept making apparatus called "mind" we look at reality through the ideas-about-reality which our cultures give us. The ideas-about-reality are mistakenly labeled "reality" and unenlightened people are forever perplexed by the fact that other people, especially other cultures, see "reality" differently. It is only the ideas-about-reality which differ. Real (capital-T True) reality is a level deeper that is the level of concept. We look at the world through windows on which have been drawn grids (concepts). Different philosophies use different grids. A culture is a group of people with rather similar grids. Through a window we view chaos, and relate it to the points on our grid, and thereby understand it. The ORDER is in the GRID. That is the Aneristic Principle. Western philosophy is traditionally concerned with contrasting one grid with another grid, and amending grids in hopes of finding a perfect one that will account for all reality and will, hence, (say unenlightened westerners) be True. This is illusory; it is what we Erisians call the ANERISTIC ILLUSION. Some grids can be more useful than others, some more beautiful than others, some more pleasant than others, etc., but none can be more True than any other. DISORDER is simply unrelated information viewed through some particular grid. But, like "relation", no-relation is a concept. Male, like female, is an idea about sex. To say that male-ness is "absence of female-ness", or vice versa, is a matter of definition and metaphysically arbitrary. The artificial concept of no-relation is the ERISTIC PRINCIPLE. The belief that "order is true" and disorder is false or somehow wrong, is the Aneristic Illusion. To say the same of disorder, is the ERISTIC ILLUSION. The point is that (little-t) truth is a matter of definition relative to the grid one is using at the moment, and that (capital-T) Truth, metaphysical reality, is irrelevant to grids entirely. Pick a grid, and through it some chaos appears ordered and some appears disordered. Pick another grid, and the same chaos will appear differently ordered and disordered. Reality is the original Rorschach. Verily! So much for all that.

I like reading my Bible and yes we have to put on the whole armor of God and keep our eyes on God then we won't fall as easily. Thank you very much for what you said.

There was this fellow who opened up his Bible with his eyes closed and used is finger to point. When he opened his eyes, his finger was pointing at the passage that said, "For I perceive that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity." Then he closed his eyes again, flipped the pages, pointed with his finger, and the passage he saw was, "Judas Iscariot hung himself." Finally, he did this all one more time, then opened his eyes, and above his finger it said, "Go thou likewise and do the same." What do you think God was trying to tell him?

I believe we still need to use logic in our approach or we can get into trouble.

PEACE

No no no,
you have it backwards, armor protects you but you must learn it is something spiritual not physical; Romans 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
2 Corinthians 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) you see the battle is a spirtual one fought inside your own mind to give control of your thoughts to God.
You are given a Bible to understand by faith his words are true when the devil throws darts at you to destroy you, Faith is your armor and your shield; Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation(protects your mind), and the sword of the Spirit(sword to attack the enemy or defend), which is the word of God:
2 Corinthians 6:7 By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,
Romans 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
The truth is the Light; John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
To over come all you need do is finish the race, many people do start to run but because of many reasons stop running; Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
I use your method to study the dictionary more than the Bible, I have purpose when I study the Bible that ussually starts with a question. But many people do not understand words so meaning as lost also

Sounds like you know how to talk with God. You can try finding a quiet spot where you won't be interrupted. focus on Jesus, just picture yourself talking with Him. Ask Him the same question you just asked. write down everything He tells you. It's the same process you just did, but more direct.

Good for you for wanting a relationship with Him.

yes.

there will DEFINITELY be storms in your life. life isn't smooth-sailing. God did not promise a perfect life on this sinful earth. but God did promise that He will be with us through the storms.

so if your armour of God is always intact, and maintained, then you will be ready to face storms.

because He is King over the flood. and we will be still, and know He is God!
