It is NOT unhealthy to start young! If you are concerned about your health you should ask an experianced person to help you learn how to lift weights correctly. I first lifted weights when I was 12.
You can do pushups too and they both gave me quick results. Do 8-10 reps with weights. I know that some guys try to be really manly and lift extremely heavy weights- do not be ashamed to start out with light weights! It is safer and you do not need a friend to spot you! Join the YMCA, it is the best. (I f you do not belong to it already)

ok well. most physicians say not to lift weights until 16 to insure your growth plates won't be damaged(what lets your body grow, if damaged you will stop growing) But if you want. your arms are two muscles. Your bicep which when you flex is the upper part that bulges upwards. and your tricep which is the under muscle that is solid and doesn't bulge out. it depends if you want bigger arms when you flex Most of your work is on your biceps. curls. hammers. etc.. but if you want overall mass you should do both triceps and biceps. your triceps are important and give you those big arms that i'm sure your looking for. and your biceps add a little to the mass but not as much as your triceps. I would go to a local gym and say "hey i was looking to maybe get a little bigger. I feel i need to be bigger for whatever reason." and they will hook you up with a weight program. the biggest thing is to not just work the arms. you gotta work the whole body. no girl or whatever reason wants to see some mammoth arms and little chicken legs. =P well good luck . but if you keep on it and maybe work your arm muscles once every two days. so mon then again on wed. then again fri. etc. and legs on the off days of the arms for about a few months you will see drastic improvement. Good luck again i got faith in you :)

You can lift medium weights ~ just don't go mega-weight lifting.
Curls are great for yours arms biceps. Also bars with 30-45 lbs of weight on them. Do 10 reps 3 times. Skip every other day so your muscles can rest & rebuild.
I'm a 105 lb female and I do it just to be strong. I can carry my own bags of groceries ~ which was my goal.

chin ups work your arms great. and your stomach and your back. start with 12 reps a day for one week. then 15 for a week then 18 for a week then 20 for a week. you will build strong good looking arms, adn other things. you can get chin up bars at health food stores. and if not they would know where to get them. or metal pipe throough the rafters in the basement works . make sure its good strong metal.

Kid, fourteen is not too young...trust me...i know plenty of kids that age that lift. Go to your local GNC or something and get a sweet protein shake...the protein shake works MUCH better if you combine it with lifting.
