You don't have to buy 'artist grade' canvas. Any canvas will do. There is a famous painting by Chagall painted "The Fiddler" (1912)on a table cloth without any primer/gesso. The blue stripes show through and still hangs in a museum.

Make sure it is non stretch, natural fiber only and prime with gesso and any fabric wil do. Good luck.

You can buy canvases generally at any art store (Pearl, Marshalls) You can check online at walmart.com to see if they offer it too, since they do have some art supplies. Also, the bigger the canvas, the more it costs. A 11x17 costs less than $10, at Pearl I got it for $7.

Good luck!

Jerry's Artarama. Look for the cases of 6. Get a good cotton acrylic primed. Jerry's has their own brand that is real adequate. Just type in "jerrysartarama.com" and it'll take you there.
