Yes they do and i think that is what makes them so unique.
They, to me, are so ugly they're cute!!
And if you try to picture them with a different nose they just look esque!!!!

A lot of the eastern dogs have flat faces. When Buddhism was introduced to China, rulers were concerned with what to do about the problem that China didn't have any lions (a symbol of buddhism)
So they bred dogs to look like the lion in the buddhist literature (the pekinese was the first dog to have rules written on how it should look - one was that it should have the nose of the hindu monkey god, that it should be gold etcc...
The pug, the lhasa, the shi-zui are all of the same type of look
The Chinese started this look with their pekinese, the Brits invaded and stole the pekies and brought they to Europe where a craze took off and breeding like crazy to make dogs look like this
Hence the lapdog with a flat face became an obsession - it is all just about looks

Some insane person years ago decided a breed with flat noses would be a good idea. There are actually several breeds like that. Stupid people started buying the dogs even tho they have health problems associated with the shortened noses. I think it is weird and crazy. Dogs are supposed to have a useful nose for smelling not a smished in face that looks like they were hit by a truck.

Years and years of selective breeding. It may be cute (depending on your definition of cute) but it leads to breathing problems.
I love moderately short nosed dogs such as Dogos or Pit Bulls, but I believe there is such a thing as too short. I love my Bostons dearly, but the two that are breed standard have breathing problems, and low tolerance for heat. My Boston that is non-breed standard because her nose is too long has none of these issues..

The flat nose on dogs like this is so that they can breathe whilst holding onto what ever they are biting,bulldog is typical example of this.

They were selectively bred to be that way. It's not very good--it results in structural deformities in the nose and mouth that interfere with breeding, when the dog was not carefully bred--you know, from bitches and males that weren't afflicted with these deformities.
