I in no way am lowering this man, I said bum because he lived in a car, next to the store i work at, He was a kind man & was always asking if WE needed help, throwing out the trash b4 close time, I just wanted to know truthfully if cops would give a damn,
The neighborhood is collecting change for his burial because noone knows of any family members he may have.

No, they can care less. Its as if their not human and they don't exist. Its sad.
I think most of you need to be realistic here...of course initially the police would attempt to solve the case but would quickly turn it down because there are more "important" cases to deal with. And I don't think a bum murder would be the first priority for police. If there is a bum who is murdered with no family members or friends to contact...the police would not have any strong reason to find the murder..except for the fact that they want to take a murderer off the streets...blah blah blah...but their not going to put further investigation into it. Most cases, the police are driven to find the murder suspect because of their families, they want to give justice and closure to them. So you can't say that a police officer will treat a bum murder the same as any other murder. Humans are equal but we're not treated equal, there is corruption in everything.

If he had a family who was around to constantly pester the police and prosecutor, more would get done. For a bum, they will probably just follow standard procedure and close the file when the leads run dry.
But - unsolved murders look bad on a prosecutors record. So there will be a lot of work done, because this person needs to answer to the voters once every four years.

It reminds me a recent episode from the the Shield. Similar to your story, a local bum was killed and his nephew was contacted to retrieve the body. The detective Dutch told the deceased's nephew that he was a local lengend to make him feel better for his uncle. Doesn't matter the person is a bum or Paris Hilton; at the end, a person is a person, a deceased person should deserve some forms of respect & dignity.

I know they do in sonoma county in NOR CAL because there's always follow up's in the paper. People aren't like that here,or maybe they have to because this is the "WINE COUNTRY" When that happens here it's usually another homeless person who did it. And who is that really mean lady at the top of the page?

Yes, they treat it the same...at least they do in the jurisdiction I am in. It's respect for ALL human beings, whether you have a home or not.

Yes, because they want to get any murderer off the street, no matter what value you yourself have put on the "bum's" life.

Sure, right after they solve all the prostitute murders and finish their donut.
But God help you if you chase a thief off, they will be on that with both feet.
