Go to Penn Station to the LIRR ticket window and ask for a Jones Beach ticket. It used to be a combo train/bus ticket.
You take the train to Freeport, then go downstairs and follow the mobs to the Jones Beach bus. Just buy a round trip from Penn Sation and keep the ticket safe and dry.

Train to Long Beach. Then I'm sure you can catch a bus from there.

Train to FREEPORT... go to LIRR.COM, click the link for the Railroad and look up what bus you need to take... but it'll say on the front where it's going.
