Boxers are more active and agile. Pits are probably stronger.

I have Boxers and they are incredibly active, athletic and agile. My lil female will jump and flip on command. I know that APBTs are stronger and do better for running long distances tho... Another thing to take onto consideration, unfortunately, is the breed specific legislation in your area. Also, My homeowners insurance would drop me if I owned an APBT - even if there has never been a complaint about the dog. Good luck with whichever you choose!

They are both very athletic breeds. I guess what ever dog was more in shape would be the more athletic one.. lol! I guess if I HAD to pick one I would say APBT. I have never owned a Boxer so I have never really seen how athletic they are.. I do own two APBTs though and I know that they are amazingly athletic dogs! : ) They excel in carting, weight pulling, agility, competitive obedience, etc, etc... and they are very agile. They are currently used and suitable for all types of service work including drug detection, emergency rescue, service and therapy work, military service, and much more. The American Pit Bull Terrier is additionally one of the most intelligent and easy to train breed of dogs. The trainer of the show dog Lassie has even remarked on how the APBT is his choice of breed for training. Again, they are both very, very athletic breeds and they are both wonderful family companions! In my opinion they are two of the BEST breeds! : )

**pegaliepooh... It sounds like you need to do a little more research on both boxers and APBTs. "I know that boxers are more loyal and not aggressive than American pit bull terriers." First of all, you cant find a more loyal breed then an APBT and they are not agressive unless they are not properly socialized! American Pit Bull Terriers are one of the most stable people-friendly breeds in exsistence! They are wonderful with adults and children and they are way more tolerant then other popular family breeds such as goldens and beagles. If you click on the first link I have posted above, look at where it tells you about the temperament and you will see the 2nd sentence says.. "By no means are these dogs people-haters or people-eaters." It goes on to say.. "Their natural agressive tendencies are towards other dogs and animals, not people. However if they are properly socialized they will not even be agressive with them." It also says, "A minimum of training will produce a tranquil obedient dog," American Pit Bull Terriers will do anything to please their owner(s)! They live to please their owner(s)! I am not saying that boxers arent wonderful, loyal companions.. lol! I LOVE boxers, I just get very upset when people say false crap about APBTs because my husband and I own two APBTs and I know for a fact that they are amazing dogs! : ) Again, I think you need to do some more research on both breeds because what you say you know is false and could be very hurtful to a wonderful breed! If you check out both of the links I have posted you will see that APBTs and Boxers are both very athletic, high energy breeds. They are both very, very loyal, they are both dominate breeds and need a strong "pack leader", they both HAVE to be properly trained and socialized and they both tend to be stubborn at times. They are both wonderful with children and adults, they both get very attached to their owners very quickly.. APBTs and Boxers are ALOT alike and they are both wonderful breeds. Neither breed is a breed for everyone though.

**vandyluva1... I have to say, WONDERFUL answer!! I really like how you gave so much info on both breeds and I LOVE that it was all positive info! : )

The general rule I follow for activity level in dogs is this: You can train any dog to be active or not so active. The dogs activity level is based on YOU, so if you want an active dog, get active with it as a pup, and if you want a fairly lazy laid back type of dog, don't go overboard with the exercise.

That being said they all need and enjoy exercise regardless of the breed. A side note: a well exercised, tired puppy, is a less destructive, happy puppy...

I have only owned the APBT but my father has owned both.

His opinion from experience is that the APBT is both a more loyal dog, intelligent dog, as well as more athletic.

That says a lot as his childhood pet was the boxer.

My two cents, the APBT. Ours was such a love.
Rest in peace Suzy.

i would deffinetly have to say pitbulls...i own male and female pitbulls and my neighbor has boxers....our dogs are highly active and VERY athletic...and there's is more mild...i would also have to say it depends on the dog you get...our female hates water..but our male could spend the whole day swimming and running around by the beach...but then if we take our dogs up into the mountains our female will chase the frisbee for hours upon hours....they are very loyal and WONDERFUL pets...the one thing you do have to deal with is people being afraid of your animal when you tell them its a pitbull....i've been stopped on the street walking my male and he's being calm and healing but they will tell me im raising killer animals....so you have to deal with alot of aggression that people have towards them....they are a highly popular dog for the wrong reasons (we just had three puppies stolen in the middle of the night...only a week and a half old) im worried whats going to happen to those puppies...

I'm not sure, but the American Pit Bull Terrier is known to be a mean dog and Boxes ain't really known for that.
