I once asked a question about whether or not successful atheist unions were more of a threat to marriage than same-sex unions. I got some, uh, interesting results.
People can't seem to view marriage outside of the "box" of religion. Certain animals practice monogamy. Many tribes of early man, who had no sense of organized religion, practiced monogamy. Marriage existed before the judeo-christian faith.
However, I was actually told -- by more than one person -- that atheists should ask themselves why they want to get married if they don't believe in god. *shakes head*
And by the way, I know several married atheist couples who have been together for years and are doing quite well.

Real in the eyes of State, but not in the eyes of God. And it doesn't have to be a Christian marraige to mean that their love for each other is true. An atheist/agnostic marriage has just as much of a chance of working out as any Christian marraige.

One of the highest divorce rates is actually amongst Christians. And the highest amongst Christians is with born-agains.
Jews 30%
Born-again Christians 27%
Other Christians 24%
Atheists, Agnostics 21%

I think this is what scares me the most about Christians. The way they earnestly follow their "truth" and seem honestly amazed when one can do things that seem to go against that truth.
Yes. Atheist marriages are real and they do work out.

They tend to work out better than most Christian marriages. They have a lower divorce rate.
Marriage has nothing to do with religion, it is a civil contract sanctioned by the state, not a church. If you don't get a marriages license from the state you marriage is NOT valid.

In the eyes of the state they are legal unions. Probably more work out than religious marriages. Why? Because there are more religious marriages. DUH!!!!!!
One question. How many of your holier than thous are remarried "Christians" that have been divorced?

More so than Christian marriages, according to statistics. Probably because they have sex first to find out if they are compatible. And no matter what you consider our marriages to be, the state sees them as legitimate, so that's all that matters. Not your opinion.

to the person who said real in the eyes of the state but not in the eyes of God need i remind you that there is a part in the Bible that says whatever you hold loose on earth I hold loose in heaven whatever you hold tight on earth I hold tight in heaven or something along those lines and to break it down whatever you believe to be true on earth he will believe to be true in heaven so if its real in your eyes its real in his eyes.

I just wonder why they would marry since marriage is ordained by God!!!!
It's like those catholics living in sin (not being married) but still baptise their children which they made bastards of .(read the dictionnaire, "bastards" are children born of parents not married) !!!
