Well, I'm not sure about the problem...I have the same thing. It is either allergies, high blood pressure or possibly sleep apnea...those are my guesses anyway. I do have a medical background, but I'm trying to by the process of elimination. They say if you wake up with a headache, it's allergies...But I've been woke up from a sound sleep because my head feels like it's going to blow apart...my guess is sleep apnea.

If it feels like a tight band around your head, it's a stress headache, which is what it sounds like. That means something is telling you to deal with it. If you aren't sure what that is, talk to your general practitioner, then see a counselor. If it's stress, they leave pretty quickly after you figure out what's bugging you -even before you resolve the problem.

If you don't think stress is the problem, see your GP just to be sure there are no organic causes.

I suffer from headaches like this. They last for days even though according to my doctor there's no medical reason for it.
I could give you a laundry list of things that could cause it but instead I'll just say talk to your doctor if they continue and make sure you're well hydrated.

Have you ever had a migraine before? Is there a history of them in your family?

Contrary to popular belief men DO get migraines.

If it continues to be severe for a total of 72 hours you need to go to the ER.

You could possibly have a Sinus problem, where abouts is the pain? if it's in the front anywhere from the cheekbones up to the middle of your head, then get your sinus' checked.

Have you ever had a migraine before? Those can carry on for a long while. Waking up with one hurts so bad.
