I am a cross country & track runner (so i run long distances)

the arches of my feet are REALLY low (my feet are pretty flat) & my low arches also cause my feet to turn inward when i run, which, in turn, gives me shin splints.

so, i know i need a motion control shoe.

i went to one sports store, where i was told that good shoes for me would be Asics Gel Nimbus VIII. THen, i went to another store where i was told that the best shoes for me would be Asics GT-2120.

The Asics GT-2120 have a piece of dark grey material near where the arch is (the rest of the sole is white), which, the guy in the store told me, means that the material in the arch is stronger than the rest of the sole, so it will prevent my foot from turning inward. he said unless a shoe has that grey piece near the arch, it will not be good for my foot type/running style.

The Asics Gel Nimbus VIII do not have this grey patch, however i was told at the other store that they would provide arch support

both these models of shoes FEEL comfortable, but i also want a shoe that will be good for my foot over a long period of time and that will prevent sports injuries

so, which of the two shoes should i choose?

it would REALLY help if someone who is an expert at shoes could answer this question (any answers are welcome though!)

Thank you !!!!!!!!!!! =]

The Nimbus is a motion control shoe (see link #1), but the GT-2120 is a stability shoe (see link #2). I'm not sure why anyone would recommend the GT-2120 for someone with low arches.. The GT-2120 is a great shoe -- just not for you.

The "dark gray material" is probably the "Space Trusstic System", which is supposed to provide arch support, but it is found on both shoes. It just may look differently on the Nimbus or perhaps it is a different color. I cannot recall exactly what it looks like, but I am 100% certain that it is there.

Between the two, you should definitely go with the Nimbus. You should also keep in mind that the Nimbus is made for someone with a larger frame, which is why it is a little heavier (for extra support). If you want a lighter shoe, you should look at the Cumulus (also motion control), which is nearly identical except that it has less cushion because it is made for someone with a small to medium frame.

Good luck finding your perfect shoes~!

You gotta try on the shoes and run in them at least inside the store Maya. How else you gonna know? But about the shin splints,...
Shin splints are caused by muscle imbalance. Calf strong, shin weak. The way to correct this is to strengthen the muscles at the front of the legs. Lie face down in bed with your toes hanging over the edge. Pull your toes upward against the resistance of the mattress. Try to work up to 3 or 4 sets of 5 – 10 reps each. Good Luck

I'm no expert on shoes but my feet turn inward too and Asics are what I wear. I went to Fleet Feet where they had me try on several different pairs of shoes and then, they watched me run in each pair.
Some shoes supponate, others pronate, and some are linear. The other stuff is just extra that you'll have to figure out for yourself through trial and error.
