You should know that when you JOIN the military. You go where they go. I would suggest you get a job in the military where you could get some pay back.

My condolences for your loss, first and most importantly. Your desire to serve, even after your husband's death, is highly commendable, and inspiring--you're not letting bitterness get the better of you. That said, whether or not you deploy depends first and foremost on which unit you're in; but ultimately, any unit can deploy. Asking for a "military job that never deploys" is like asking to become a pilot that never flies. If frequency and length of deployment is a concern, though, look into the Air Force. Air Force personnel will ALWAYS disagree hotly with this, but everyone who's served in the OTHER branches agree: they deploy the least often, and for the shortest amount of time--and rarely are right in harm's way. Most of the Air Force personnel I saw in Iraq, the rare times I saw them, were there for 3-4 months and were supporting aircraft taking off and landing at the airport. The only other ones I saw, here and there, were individual staff weather officers. I saw more NAVY people in Baghdad than Air Force folks... that should tell you something.

there are NO jobs that do not have the potential to deploy. ZERO. and don;t forget.. there are other places to get deployed to besides Iraq or Afghanistan.
Unfortunately, as a spouse, you do not qualify under the Sullivans Act to be exempt from being deployed to a combat zone. only children and siblings of someone killed in combat are excused.
If you truly want to serve, than choose the Navy..as long as you do NOT choose MA, any of the SeaBee ratings, any of the ADMIN ratings or HM. you will still deploy, of course, but the chances of being boots on the ground in the desert go down significantly.

Someone already mentioned Navy and Coast Guard to not get shot at and the next best thing would be National Guard and then Reserves. Before the idea was to replace active duty people on bases and have active duty go to combat. I know that is changing based on what your MOS is. I was a 77F for the Army Reserve and they wanted to activate me for Desert Storm based on my MOS and deploy me with another unit. So, choosing your MOS is also another important factor.
I am also sorry to hear of your loss and I think it is tremendous that you still want to serve in the military! That is fantastic and I thank you for being so supportive of the military and this country.

I almost called you a coward, but seeing that you lost a loved one in Iraq, I won't. But if you feel the need to do something honorable and this will make your family happy, you cqn look into the USO or assist with the grieving process of other families that lost a loved one in the war. But I can't think of any non-deployable job with in the military. I am sorry for the lost of your loved one....GOOD LUCK to ya

I can give you a couple of Air Force jobs that won't be deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan.
But they can be deployed outside the US.
IE: Guam, Europe, etc.
2M0X1 <-------------------------------------------- my old job
Missle & Space Systems Electrical Maintenance
2M0X2
Missile & Space Systems Maintenance
2M0X3
Missile & Space Facilities
2W2X1
Nuclear Weapons
None of those jobs will deploy to Iraq or Afghanistan.
Though 2M0X1 can deploy if you are working on UAV's.

you can be deployed with any job that the military has. there are certain factors that will limit weather or not you can be deployed to a combat zone, best to check with a recruiter and find out for sure if you would qualify.

Join the Air Force, we have jobs that are maintaince on Nuclearn Missiles (ICBM-intercontinital ballistic millsile) they are considered **deployed in place** they have 3 bases to choose from...F.E.Warran, CO, Malmstrom, MT, Minot, SD but you must score high on your asvab in order to be eliable for this job, ask your recruiter about it and he should know the right AFSPC.

My appologies. Try looking into the Air Force, they have many jobs that are less likely to be deployed (ballistic missile and space peeps pop into mind first), but if you do get deployed chances are you'll be on a relatively safe airbase.
