I had this exact same problem with my cat, starting when he was about 6 months old. He kept peeing on the floor and even on the side of the couch. It was like he knew he shouldn't, but he couldn't help himself (it's a territorial thing). I got him neutered, and it "fixed" the problem completely! He never peed on anythng except in his litter box again. You pretty much have to get a male cat neutered if you want the cat to be an indoor cat. Getting them neutered also makes them less prone to want to run away to find a mate. It also seems to help with the urine smell; it makes it less ammonia-smelling. ...But you won't notice it hardly at all after you get him neutered because it won't be all over your house! Now the question is how to get the urine smell off of your stuff. I never had any luck, but I've seen questions/answers on yahoo answers before where people have given ideas that they say do work, so you could do a quick search. Best wishes!

Getting him fixed will make him stop marking, if you do it soon enough. If it's already a habit, he'll stop doing it as often. Only cleaning will get rid of the smell. Natures Miracle is good for that, just don't use ammonia, or bleach. Bleach will cause cats to develop lung problems, ammonia will encourage marking.

Un-neutered male cats will instinctively mark their territory. They have very strongly scented urine. Neuter him asap before the marking becomes a bad habit, and then it may be too late to stop the behavior. He's not being bad, he's just following his hormones.

boy cat pee stinks. if you neuter him he might still do it, but he is a boy cat so that is why he does it. he is marking territory and he will keep doing it until he is satisfied.
