I have just moved into a boarding house, and I'm absolutely terrified of the kitchen (I'm a bit of a clean freak, and the kitchen here makes me feel absolutely filthy). However, I can't keep going to Burger King for food! I purchased a single-coil burner to use in my room, and have found several things to cook with it - pasta, rice, etc.

I just thought I'd ask here and see if anybody has any creative, healthy, new ideas for me. I have no microwave, and no fridge (although I will be getting both very soon!). Any ideas?

If you don't mind the smell, cans of tuna are pretty healthy. As well as some of those canned hams. You can use it to make sandwiches. those little cans of fruit are really good. Any healthy canned goods are a good alternative.

With no fridge, you'll have to buy your produce fresh every time you're about to cook.
You can also buy and use a crockpot
And yes you can live healthy without those things. You can make soups, you can do rice pilafs, you can do stewed chicken, beef .. You can make fish, you can do a lot of braising and then simmering your meats until done. You can even roast your chicken on very low heat, but it will take you a long time to complete your meals, as you will be doing one pot at a time. You will need to get recipes for one serving as you have no fridge for leftovers. You can also do a lot of pasta dishes with sauces.. gumbo, jambalaya, goulash and such . Just use healthy ingredients

I have cooked on a one burner coil for 4 months at a time and was cooking for 10 people. At least I had a fridge.
Good Luck

Something I enjoy a Ramen Noodles, they cook fast and I can cut up some fresh Broccoli and some chunks of cheddar cheese. Add the cheese when it done. You can buy cheddar in the deli and just get one or two slices. Even buy one slice of ham, chicken etc. to chop up in it. You can get creative. Pasta works too, but, the Ramen Noodles seem to cook faster. Any fresh veggie will work. I not add but about 1/2 the water, then it not as soup like. Some favorite crackers. Yum!
Just a thought.

I think healthy would be tough... you can go a few days... keep peanut butter, bread, and fresh fruit around. Is a dorm fridge out of the question? At least then you can keep milk products, lunch meat, and some condiments handy, and buy side dishes liek potato salad and pasta salad at delicatessans.

Most vegetables and fruits can be kept at room temperature, and some whole grain pasta or spaghetti is always good to have around along with waters. Also, stock up on some bread and maybe some peanut butter for protein sense you cant really store meat, or maybe even protein bars.
