I have brownish-black hair, and even with heavy-duty drugstore bleach, I can only get it a sickly yellowish color. If you want platinum-blonde, you'll have to go to a beauty-supply store and get the hard-core bleach stuff, though I wouldn't recommend doing it for a special occasion for the first time. It's not a good time for experimenting, and if you have to dye over your mistakes, it can look pretty bad.

One thing I liked, though, was the Colour Rays system (L'Oreal, I think.) You can get fuchsia or red streaks even on dark hair, even if it's dyed (my hair is dyed...grays...poo.) They also have a blonde version that might work, though it might be more of a caramel effect than white-blonde. I'd go with the cherry-red Colour Rays, which is noticeable but not as risky.

But if you want a drastic change or all-over blonde, try a salon.

Or wait for college--if you mess up your color, you'll blend in a lot better among all the other people making mistakes.

Edit: that was a good point about getting fake blonde strips woven in. I didn't think of that. That might be a better idea, actually.

I wouldn't advise blonde under the top. If you want the whole underside of your hair blonde, it will make your neck look really thick. Try some highlights. If you want more of a rocker/punk feel tell the salon that you want the first section around your crown to stay your natural color. That way you won't have the stripes some girls get. Instead start the Highlights a layer down and make them thick(chunks). Yes you'll have to bleach it but as long as your hairs not already damaged it shouldn't be to bad. And make sure to really condition it once it's done. Good Luck!

Yeah, you have to bleach it. N'rage makes products where you only have to go through one step to bleach and dye. While bleaching, pull your hair up really high with a straight part sectioning off the part your bleaching, and keep the bleach away from the other hair. You don't really have to get to the very top, seeing as though it's under everything, so yeah. Hope I answered your question.

As you have dark hair you should get it done professionally. Otherwise it might turn orange! And yes I would say you will probably need to bleach it, although at a salon I went to once they used a product called Magimech(I don't remember the spelling) I think it was Loreal. And anyway it doesn't contain peroxide.

I don't know what they are called, but there are strips of human hair that women sometimes use to make their hair seem longer or fuller. Rather than bleaching, perhaps you could have some of these, in blond, worked into your own hair by your hair stylist. Just a thought.

do not use undeniable at peroxide you detect on your drugs cupboard!!! i'm severe, it will make your hair smash off! Get Manic Panic bleach, that is called something Lightning i think of. i could recommend 40 Vol because of the fact that your hair is so dark now. pass away it in for as long because it takes to teach as easy as you like. shop a watch on IT so it would not stay in for TOO long. yet- keep in mind, it could take a whilst. i could guestimate someplace around an hour. Bleaching your hair will fry it no rely what, yet you could decrease the, er, friedness, with some stable conditioner. i in my view like Nexxus form conditioner (you may get it at CVS). once you bleach your hair, positioned lots (a LOOOOT!) of this conditioner (or another style of pass away-in conditioner, Anasazi mineral mask is yet another popular of mine) for a million/2 an hour or so, and once you pass interior the bathe to rinse it out, wash with shampoo and extra conditioner. additionally- that is rather substantial to make particular you have desirable shampoo which will shop the blonde from turning yellow or brassy (been there- it sucks.) Sally's elegance grant has ordinary form shampoo made especially for that objective- this is obtainable in a undeniable white bottle with black lettering, and the extremely shampoo is purple. that is exceedingly affordable in spite of the shown fact that it rather works rather nicely. Oh, and thank you to a modern mishap (or prepare injury) I had bleaching my hair, determine you have adequate BLEACH to cover your complete HEAD!!! that is a necessity!!! My chum became bleaching my hair some days in the past and she or he ran out, so now i appear as if a calico cat and that is extremely unattractive. yet- I did all the conditioning issues that I advised you to do, so a minimum of my gruesome hair is intense high quality and delicate... And intense high quality and blonde, interior the aspects she DID bleach, haha. stable success! determine you have adequate bleach! situation nicely! Get stable shampoo! (:

Yes, you have to bleach it. If your hair is too dark, it won't turn blond, even if you leave the solution in for a long time. It will just turn sorta orange.

please make sure you are extra cereful when doing this....but it is possible to do at home! seperate the portion of your hair that you would like to dye...pull all of the rest to the very top of your head and secure it tightly.
most department stores and drug stores carry bleach kits for highlights....this is the same type of bleach you would need to use to turn your hair color.
also, if you have long hair it may take 2 kits.
now, seperate your hair like stated above, and have a friend help you dye it.
