Ok, so my birthday is coming up! I just came out of a horrible breakup and I feel that my ex is dropping hints that he wants to get back together again even though HE was the one who broke up with ME!. Well, since my birthday is coming up, I wrote a letter to God asking for my ex to admit to his feelings for me again around the time of my birthday. I stored the letter in an envelope full of pictures and notes that my ex wrote to me and stashed the envelope in the same place my bible is. I am a good and firm Catholic who prays to God every night and has faith that this birthday wish of mine will come true. Does having faith in this one abstract birthday wish and writing that letter make me stupid?

*Is Catholic*

Actually, the word you want is HOPE not FAITH. You have hope that something will happen, you have faith when you believe that something is. Common mistake.

No it doesn't make you sound stupid. It just really sounds like you miss your ex.

Let me say this to you though...Yes the missing and hurting will go on. It is normal. However if you let yourself be consumed by the missing you might miss the next guy that comes along who will love you more because you are too focused on what could have been.

Be confident in God, keep to your prayers, and you will find love.

No.. it doesn't make you stupid. I've asked God for very specific things (down to the unique details) and got them (it's a long story but it's almost uncanny). But don't forget.. God will choose if your wish is good for you, all you can do is ask and hope that it is.
Good luck!
P.S. In my prayers I have always added that I'd like God to help me easily get out of a relationship if He thinks it's bad for me. (You might want that wish more than the other. If you could EASILY break away from this guy would you want that?... if he could be replaced by someone better would you want that? Maybe you should think about what you really want and pray for that. Don't limit yourself.)

Not at all. I am 42 and have been through alot of ups and downs ( more downs than up). But I pulled through all of them and I owe it all to the power of possitive thinking. Sometimes we may not get exactly what we ask for but that would be because we are not asking for the right things. But I firmly believe that if you beleive in something (strongly beleive) no matter how true it is or is not for others, it will be true for you. I am very happy with the way my life has turned out even though there where times when it didn't look like I would even survive. So your beleifs are not stupid, not at all!!!

i'm Catholic also and i think it's a good idea to write your thought to god asking for help, but don't forget to say thank you every once in a while. He gets many "i want" letters and very little "thank you" letters. This doesn't make you sound stupid, it just says that you are a strong believer in His Power to make things happen.

No that doesn't make you stupid. I'm not Catholic, I'm Russian Orthodox, but I still wish to God and hope for the best. I think lots of people do.
Good luck with your wish!

I'm in almost the same exact situation. b-day next weekend, he broke up with me, but wants to spend my birthday with me. I say let him have space and don't expect anything because that just sets you up for another emotional rollercoaster. you don't want to let him ruin your b-day. it only comes once a year!!! good luck girl!!!
