I have a question that I am posting for my son.
He has a cat that "inhales" her food and then after she eats, she
throws up. What causes this and how can it be prevented?
Thanks!!

my cat used to do the same thing. i think he ate so fast because he was a rescue kitty and wanted to be sure he got his share of food. i just feed him smaller quantities throughout the day. i also put a rubber ball a little bit smaller than the bowl so that he has to nudge it around to get to the kibble. this makes him actually eat slower and actually chew!!

Like lilangel said... the cheese and milk should be avoided, along with any vegetables that are grown underground (like onions). Above ground is ok (lettuce, etc.) Tuna and salmon from the can should be in limited quantities, as they are so fragrant to cats that they may expect this for every meal. Think about what cats would eat on their own if they did not have you to provide for them... they would eat small rodents, birds, bits of vegetables, and insects. To help your cat's teeth, give them a chicken neck to munch on. The bone is soft so they can tear through it... but make this a treat and not their regular meal. For other food guidelines, try the book: Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats: The Ultimate Diet’ by Kymthy Schultze Good luck!

The cause is the cat eating so quickly. If you put a large rock in the food bowl, the cat will slow down.

She may have worms if she has not been wormed in awhile or even hairballs. Could be the food. Is it canned food? Maybe try dry, if that does not work, try the vet.
I suggest only high quality cat food that does not have corn or gluten in the first main ingredients and no BY-PRODUCTS. Purina is yuck. Read their ingredients. . Pet Supermarket has nutro-products which I use and they love it.

You could try feeding her smaller quantities of dry food that she has to actually chew. And make sure to have regular feeding times so she won't feel she has to eat as fast as possible while it's there.

Good luck!
