Maverick is a decent brand of shotgun, it is the economy line from Mossberg. I prefer the Mossberg 590 myself, better fit and finish and not that much more if you buy used. I have several barrels, an 18.25 inch which is on it most of the time, a 22 inch slug barrel with a scope and a 24 inch modified choke for birds.

$600-$700 is more than enough to but you most pump action shotguns on the market.

If your looking to upgrade from a single shot to a pump.
look no further then the Remington 870.

There is every accessory immaginable available for it and you will have a good chunk of change left over to take advantage of this.

The maverick is just an economy version of the Mossberg 500/590.

Both the Maverick and Mossbergs are good but for the amount of money you've budgeted you can do much better.

If you are looking to up grade to a pump and are willing to part with $600 to 700, I'd recommend the Remington 870. Much better than the Maverick. I bought my 870 in 1975. I have a vent rib barrel and a slug barrel for it. I have used it for birds, deer, and competition. I lost track to the number of rounds through the gun but it is in the several thousands. An utterly reliable shot gun. Best buy for the money.

Maverick is not a good brand of gun especially for that type of money. They shot good at first but they wear out very quickly. A Remington 870 pump would be my recommendation.

If the pump gun and the single shot is the only guns you are going to have, than id reccomend either a mossberg 500 or remington 870. you can buy barrels and stock configurations to meet any need(defense, birds, small game, big game). i have a mossberg 500 with a vent rib barrel and a rifled barrel with a scope on it.

Maverick is made by Mossberg. I have 2 Mossberg 500's and love them both, never had a problem with them. Go with the Mossberg 500, as there are plenty of barrels and chokes readily available for it, or the Winchester. Good luck.

If you are planning on spending between six and seven hundred dollars, go for something better than the Maverick. I bought one of those, for about $150, at Wal Mart.

Put on here how much you are looking to spend and you'll get some good responses. I got a browning bps this past christmas. It's highly recommended by me. I think it may still come with a $75 rebate so check out their website.

They're ok guns but I think the best ones are Winchesters.

They seem to get decent reviews.
