This has been one of the most unfair situations for the last 60 years. I agree with you, but until you can get to someone in congress or the senate, nothing will be done. Sorry. There are bases, though, that will serve you if you are in the military. Don't try it off base, but there are clubs on military bases that will serve you as long as you have your military ID

Most people don't like to hear this, but beer is neither a right nor a necessity--and most guys in the military who really want beer never have any trouble getting it, anyway! It only means that an under-21 kid can't get it himself; alcohol gets more servicemembers into trouble than anything else--more than fights, more than drugs, more than gang-affiliations (that's a growing problem in the military)... alcohol's often associated with those other things anyway. The connection between being able to buy your own beer instead of having someone else get it for you, and serving your country, is dubious at best. I almost never drank during my entire service; and I was one of those who never got arrested, never had any domestic abuse issues with my wife, never got divorced from my wife, never got into fights in the barracks or at clubs (not going to clubs in the first place sure helped)... you get the picture. No one NEEDS beer; and if an 18-year old private wants it that badly, he'll have no trouble getting it anyway.

This question is so redundant; it's been around since the Vietnam War.

Simply put, it's the law.

Contact your Senators or Governors to initiate action to change the law.

But, with my living here in South Korea, I can assure you that there are numerous underage drinkers here in South Korea, who decide to break the law and drink anyway. Their belief is simply, "this doesn't apply to me."

Wishful but disoriented thinking. They are old enough to join the military, but yet cannot handle a simple issue like obeying the law.

Does this show maturity? No, it doesn't.

Till the current laws are changed, the current laws stand firm on this issue.

Hey, I joined the Army at 17. Met this girl who was 17. I was brought up on charges for having sex with a minor. Sad thing was, her birthday was 4 months before mine. She was older than me. You want to talk about fair?

Why couldn't I vote until I was 18, but was in Desert Storm when I was 17?
You want to buy beer, get stationed in Germany, or be stationed at a Base/Post/Fort/etc... where the Commander makes the law 18.

Better yet, just join the military, then come up with better "why isn't it fair" questions.

No way is it incorrect, no remember what interior sight rules say! whilst those adult adult males/females come domicile from conflict, they might desire to be waiting to drink everywhere in this united states of america for loose for the 1st few months of their return, as long as they have the right defense force I.D. to tutor they're, if certainty be told, U.S. squaddies. even with each thing they have continued during their deployment, some loose beers is a small value to pay for their provider. purchase him one or purchase him many, merely make advantageous he knows how lots he's favored.

Because the military laws are at least equal to the local laws.

Overseas they can be younger, depending on what the commander decides.

tell them all to join the Marine Corps....they just allowed anyone 18-20 to drink alcoholic beverages...BUT ONLY during a special occasion, with their commands permission and if they are supervised. I think it's fair.

You're talking about two different parts of gov't. The Federal gov't doesn't set the drinking age, the states do. So if you want it to be 18, start lobbying your state lawmakers.
