Going to sleep is a bit weird isn't it? unless your dreaming, how do you know if your still alive?

when your asleep you loose control of everything, until you wake up.

My question:: Even when you are dreaming, how do you know you are alive?

Many times, within dreams, your mind takes everything for granted. (i.e. That green monster walking down the street doesn't hit your consciousness at the same level it normally would, and this is somehow normal in your dreaming world) YET, you still FEEL alive.

The only types of dreams, in which you are completely conscious of the fact that you are asleep and within a dream, are Lucid Dreams. Within a Lucid Dream you have as much, or as little, conscious control over every aspect of that dream as you will. I believe that within a Lucid Dream you are fully aware of both being alive in the dream world, and alive (but sleeping) in the physical world.

In both these scenarios, however, you are correct. One can not FULLY know if one is still physically alive, or not. Which leads to another question...

If you were to drift into death, while in a dream, would you even know you had died? Would it matter?

You still have brain waves, the wildest ones being in your REM cycle, which is also when you are most likely to dream. The average human sleeps 8 hours a night and has four dreams. The average human remembers about 1 dream a week.

You know you are alive because your thought life is still vivid. Even in my deepest sleep, I can tell when my cat is jumping on my bed or about to throw up in it.

Maybe that is a carryover from being a mom, who knows.

This is a taste of Nirvana, just a taste though, the deathless state. We all get a taste of it every time we sleep....interesting intuitive insight you've exhibited..

that's just it u won't know till u wake up. that's why when I go to bed at night I always say my prayers and make sure I ask God to forgive me for everything I did that was not of Him, just in case I don't wake up

You're breathing and your heart is beating and your brain is still processing things. That's how you know you're still alive.

I think when you are before God you know you died. Make sure that you are in the right place with Him before you die.
