I'm a Sufi.
I believe in God.
Why can't some humans believe in a supreme being or God?
This world is filled with illusion.
Some humans hearts are veiled with more illusion than other
human hearts.
As time progresses some of these veils are slowly removed
and the light of truth is aloud into the heart.
This is a question that I have seen asked on R/S frequently.
I have seen many answers given by many people.
This is the state of man, for these veils are placed in many
humans so that a thing called doubt might be addressed, removed and overcome. Amazingly this is the way it is supposed to be and it is necessary for the growth of man.
May God grace us with the "Wisdom" to understand this and allow all humans to grow into the light, from which they came.
Lastly, organized religion is primarily responsible for the hatred in this world.
It is that undiminishing word called "Faith" that has kept the people of planet earth united for more than 40,000 years. May it continue for 40,000 more................

Richard Dawkins has answered this question more articulately than I can, but I will do my best to explain it in my own clumsy words.
First of all, all you have to do is look around the globe to see all the damage religion has wrought upon us. That much is self-evident and I shouldn't have to point it out to you. Just read a newspaper. I'm not just talking about all the killing which is inspired by religion, but even right here in the United States it is the religious views of the majority that dictates who will be elected to public office as well as the laws we must obey. Gay marriage, stem cell research, abortion... these are all opposed entirely on the grounds of religious beliefs. You can't tell me your religion doesn't effect me, because it most certainly does!
Second, truth matters. When a person uses the idea of "God" to explain the unknown, he stops investigating. His mind becomes shut to any other ideas, even if those other ideas are truth.

Ok, so atheists should shut up, I as a pagan/other should shut up, but all of you God people can keep talking? So, if you don't like the thought of not having a god why can't you keep it to yourself? I don't believe in any "mainstream" God because everybody who does seem to be arrogant, ignorant, intolerant, and blind. So instead of following some old book I asked my own questions, and found my own answers. Are you aware that censoring other opinions because you disagree is a part of fascism?

A lot of times, people are looking for hard scientific evidence that God exists. But if there was such evidence, everyone would be FORCED to believe in God. Therefore, this would just destroy the whole concept of free will.
In addition, many people are against God because they blame him for all of the evil in the world - when this evil should be attributed to Satan instead! They ask, "why would a good and loving God allow such evil things to happen in the the world?"
This idea is related to the fact that many people expect God to serve them, when we should be the ones serving him instead. For instance, non-Christians often pray to God, hoping for an answer, yet they are disappointed when God "fails" to answer their prayers. That is because they pray with the wrong motives and intentions. The primary purpose of prayer is to seek God's will.
Also, many people disagree with the "limits" God apparently sets on them. By choosing not to side with God, they are allowed to do whatever their flesh desires.
Arrogance is also another reason why people refuse to humble themselves before the Lord.
(To smells_like_pot: Believing in God doesn't keep Christians from investigating. At my church, we encourage people who aren't sure about certain things in the world or even about God, to open up with their doubts. This is how we grow in our faith. I myself have doubted God many times in the past, but through questioning - and despite slips in my faith - God has graciously revealed the truth to me. I pray that he will do the same for your too. God will reveal the truth to you if you seek him with a sincere and honest heart. This means that you are to approach God without any hidden motives.)
(To the asker - I am assuming you are Christian - : I too am frustrated with all of these hateful questions, but as Christians, we must remain compassionate toward non-Christians. Don't forget, growing hatred and rebellion against God is a sign of the endtimes. Don't lose faith ^^.)

People are being led by satan and not Jesus Christ. satan doesn't want people to love the Lord and he will whisper in their ears, brainwash them and whatever else to get them on his side. We are living in the last days. People are going to get worse and worse.
Sometimes I get angry at them but then I stop and think about it, most of them do not know any better so I pray for them because that is more important than for me to get all worked up. Their souls are to precious!
God Bless.

I've never blasted god in my life. I have blasted the thought process that some people think should be applied to everybody no matter what.
And, conversely, what is stopping you from keeping your god belief to yourself ?

We are not against god we don't believe in god.
Some of us are against religion because it leads to fanaticism and intolerance.
The last time I checked this is a free country and I can say what I want.

If there was a god I doubt I'd have a problem with him/her/it.
Biblegod's just a pain in the **** though and his believers are annoying morons who have to be stood up to to prevent them from turning the world into a dungheap.

Here's an idea.....since this is an open forum where people are allowed to think what they like and state what they believe in, why don't you GROW UP and stop crying just because someone doesn't believe in your imaginary friend.
