When people who believe in God sit and think and ponder for a really long time about their belief in God, does it seem as though you only believe b/c you fear Hell? Or fear your life will go astray if you dont believe? Or do you only believe because you feel slightly pressured by other people saying you SHOULD believe? Or do you only believe because you were raised to believe and you never really thought about it any other way? Or do you believe just because the majority of the people surrounding you believe and you feel you must join in in fear of persecution from those people?
Or do you REALLY REALLY believe in your heart of hearts after thinking about it for a really really long time that there is actually a "spiritual being" that is controlling you, your life and your after life. Even with so much scientific evidence that points towards a more definite reasoning for certain things.

Dbett , as I read the answers that you have already received
what more can be said . They gave you some good heart
felt answers to your question . It is a personal relationship
with Our Holy Father . I think a lot may have started out in the
different ways of your various asked questions . Plus everybody , are at different levels of spiritual maturity . We
do all start as children in Faith , like a child need its mothers
milk the survive and grow. Then to get to the next level of nutritional needed food for healthy continued growth , a mother will start to spoon feed her baby some soft foods etc..
You understand this I'm sure , well it is the same for a Christian , first there is a calling but ! what you do with that calling depends on the spiritual food that you will nurture it
with for spiritual growth in the God of All & Jesus Christ His
Son . Our souls need Holy food , spiritual food from Our God
for growth . Which comes from hearing , seeing , reading
His Word to us , if we do not feed a child it will surely die and
the same is for our faith in Jesus who leads us to our Holy Father . You can't be lazy if you want to grow ! feeding it one
day and then maybe a week or so later . I myself have come
along way in knowing my Holy Father and still have an eternity
to go . He is not someone that you can just figure out in a couple days or weeks , month but , years it takes . Don't worry
He will show Him self to you from begining to well , forever so
far . I was not always like this , I came crawling to the Cross
of Jesus and now I know that I can not live with out Him , I don't want to live with out Him for even one second . I Love
Jesus so much that I scream it out at times and My Holy Father , well I never really knew what a true loving Father was
until I met Him . Now He holds me tight in his arms and show
me His Love for me for you if you accept it . It is a choice and
it is free will in doing so . I Love Him so very much and I thrist
to know Him so much more . I could go on here but you are
welcome to email me if you want . Because as True Christian
we care about you , sure we still are sinners but not like we
use to be and are a work in progress with Our Lord Jesus
Christ who takes them all , all away . Peace and Love to You..

I'll answer your queries in order. Fear of hell is not a motive for me, in fact I avoid fear as much as possible. Definitely not afraid of screwing up, that's where the best lessons are learnt. Considering I have had many people tell me my beliefs are stuffed, don't think peer-pressure is a factor. I used to follow blindly, then my Karma ran over my Dogma and I took the blinkers off.
So all in all I'd say that I fit into the final category, however as an intelligent and educated member of society I also understand science and it's role, I believe in evolution as a process used by the divine. And just a tip, rationalising a spiritual being with a form of study firmly entrenched in the physical world seems fairly pointless.

I couldn't give a flip about what other people think in regards to my beliefs. I left a cult and a lot of people I thought were friends, but they were conditional friends.

My quest was such that hell didn't even come into the picture. If there were no God, then hell became irrelevant.

In studying what science claims, in regards to evolution, their methodologies were full of contradictions and claims without substantiation. There were holes big enough to walk through.

You think evolution true? Then explain sex. The evolutionary model is about cells multiplying through cellular division and "budding."

So how did these mindless cells conclude, "hey , let's share and remix dna!" Yea, right.

Then came the problem of, if there is a God, then has he made himself known in any manner? Is the God of the Bible the real God, or one of the others?

The answer there was the prophesies of a messiah going back well over a thousand years prior to the events; prophesies, written down and preserved by a people who didn't even believe them. And these prophesies were in detail.

Then there is the evidence of eye-witnesses to all those events.

So I could either go with a belief that had evidence, or another belief full of speculation, but no evidence.

Even science understands there was a beginning to all matter at one instant, but they can't explain what made it come about; matter from nothing.

To me, it's a no brainer.

The truth of the Word of God, the Holy Bible, that has been around for thousands of years with accurate predictions is outstanding proof of a Creator God.

Let me ask you a question. Have you ever really, really studied the Holy Bible? Have you ever ask that Spiritual Being, Almighty God, to show you great and mighty things as He declares that He will in Jeremiah 33:3? Are you so convinced that man is right in all of man's theories, assumptions and guesses that you totally reject God? How many books could you write about what man doesn't know about almost everything? Let me assure you that I fear no man alive or dead, but my friend I fear God, the Creator of all.
I have seen His great and mighty things. I have heard His voice. I hunger and thirst to hear His voice again. In His presence I change. I am awe struck. You never forget what God speaks to you. It is burned in the mind. Peace, warmth, comfort, security, intense love, increased senses are all wonderful experiences in His presence. You aren't the same and you crave to be close to Him. Just let me stay in His presence and hear His voice. I've only heard His voice twice but I wouldn't trade His voice for anything in this world.

When I was younger I did. But when I start looking for answers and the people that I thought knew about God, really didn't give me believeable answers, so I start searching for myself. My conclusion in the end let me to know that there is a god. Dont believe everything you hear or read. Find out for yourself do your own research and you probably will be surprise.

I'm not a follower so I dont care if you' re Christain or not if your beliefs are suspicious, I'm not going to side with you. I will educate myself and find the truth.

When I was younger I use to write letters to God just to get things off my chest or to ask for help and; when I go back and read the letters that I wrote him. I can see that everything I truely asked him for he gave it to me. He probably didn't give it to me when I wanted it but when I was ready for it. He didn't give it to me the way I wanted it but the way I asked for it. That why it true when they say be careful of what you ask for because you just might get it.

I do not think that God controls me because he gave me free will.

I believe that earth is like the hardest school there is to complete. But I do believe in reincarnation so I believe that I chose my life, I thought I was strong enough to go through these tribulation and God said he knew I was strong enough for it. So everything I go through I see as a test, something I need to learn, to better my spirituality.

and He's looking down on me saying I know my girl could do it.

Yes to the last option lol, science has not given trustworthy evidence of the contrary anyways. What science does show is how amazingly complex this universe is and that we should admire the work of its designer. I managed to reason through to the existence of God, given that i was a real subborn atheist... now i am a subborn muslim but for the right reasons and very happy about it : )

I think to consider God is to be a Spiritual individual. Someone who maintains their religion with no feel of God's presence is also Religious - maintain to a doctrine, obey the scriptures and notice the customs and traditions, however that individual isn't always non secular, which particularly method to be keenly mindful and in a position to consider the spirit of God's presence.

When you come to know him, you never sit around and ponder anything. He will show you and teach you anything you want to know, you just have to take the time to develop a relationship with Him. You do not fear death or dread it either. You can say without a doubt that he is who he says he is..if you don't seek Him then you will not find Him.

DBETT, I hope you are genuinely searching. I searched for a long time and everything eventually points to God. I went from being raised in church, going to college to be a minister, to chucking it all to lean toward agnosticism or atheism. After half a life time of searching in philosophy, various religions, science, and whatever I could put in my mind I realized that there is a God and everything leads back to him.
I have learned that there is one beginning point and one ending point and they are the same...FAITH. For a long time it was my stopping point, but I realized that no matter where I searched I ended up with unanswered questions which forced me to have faith in something. I chose to have faith in God and his existence and the promises he made to us.

Every persons testimony is different as it is the Holy Ghost that gives the sure knowledge of Jesus Christ to people. He does it in a different way for each and every one of us sort of like a finger print. Every one is different even when the overall pattern is the same.
