I have seen wedding budgets as low as $10,000-$15,000 and as much as $100,000 or more. It just really depends on the couple and their financial limitations. Also the area that you are in will dictate the vendor prices. In larger cities it will be significantly more expensive. The national average is $27,000 while the DC average is $40,000 or more.

My husband and I spent $200-$400. I borrowed my dress. My husband wore a suit, as did his groomsmen. My bridesmaids maybe spent $10 on their dress material and maybe another $10 to have them made. I purchased four blank birthday cakes because I actually made a wedding cake because my dad's on a strict diet, but all but the top tier fell apart so dad got to eat that. We had a friend do the photography. The church ladies made finger foods. Our flowers were all fake. We rented a volunteer fire dept. hall for $20. This was in 2002.From what I can tell, people who spend more than about $2,000 on their weddings and receptions(doesn't count travel, honeymoon, etc>)have a much higher divorce rate partly due to being materialistic and the poor guy can't afford to keep their women up. Such a shame people spend so much money on the weddings when a good chunk of them will wind up in divorce. Your sister is one smart cookie, and chances are, her marriage will last a lifetime. She's obviously not materialistic. By the way, I LOVE chicken:) That's my favorite meat.

My wedding was over $30,000, but you certainly don't have to go nuts like we did.
We had over 300 guests.
A 7 course family style meal. Full bar, h'or dourves, dessert table, champagne. $55 per person
A Latin Jazz Band and a DJ $2000 for each
Just on the photographer I spent over $5,000.
This doesn't include the centerpieces, flowers, candles, jewelry, dress, shoes, and all the little things you forget about 4 years later.
It can be done much much much much cheaper, and even though I had the wedding of my dreams, I look back and think of all the things we could have done with that money if we hadn't spent it on our wedding.

I spent the following
Food $5000.00
Photos $8000.00
Dress $1500.00 (alterations, shoes, veil)
Tux $500.00 (all the tuxes)
site $2500.00
Coodinator $500.00
Flowers $3000.00
Misc $3000.00
So I am guess around $25000.00, this was before the honeymoon and the cabins I rented for the destination.
I would do things different, I think. My photos included two albums that are huge. I also had several large photos that I only had to buy frames. I spent way to much money, but it was wedding two and I got everything I wanted. I forgot the cake, which was $1500.00, by the time I paid her to cut the cake.

About $50. My mother made my wedding dress, hubby wore his own suit. We got married at the courthouse. We stopped by a florist on the way to the ceremony, and I got a corsage and he a boutonniere. My brother-in-law snapped a few pictures. Then we were on the way to our honeymoon. No cake, no decorations, etc. We have been married 33 years last week.
I am thinking that on our 35th anniversary, I may have a party and have a cake and decorations and the stuff we didn't have before, maybe have our grandkids walk us down the aisle :-)

Its all different depending on what you like, how many guests and where you're located.
But ours was about...
$5000 for photography (we spent plenty because this is what we'll have for the rest of our lives to remember).
$3500 for catering, we like good food. No chicken.
$6000 for the place. we wanted it memorable so no one would forget.
$350 for DJ
$350 for the cake
$1000 for the drinks and alcohol (we did seperate package for catering and alcohol because we know what our guests like to drink)
$200 dress, $350 for alterations $20 for veil. $20 for shoes.
$350 invitations
$150 for favors (cookies)
$300 priest
$2500 flowers
Of course, some people won't care as much about the place or the photography, flowers or what not. It's all up to the couple. Oh and some cultures they pay for the bridal parties outfits.

We're in the midst of preparing for our Sept wedding this year...we're having about 125 guests and by the time it's all said and done, we'll only have spent $1600.
I can offer TONS of money saving advice...feel free to email me if there's an area that she's looking to cut some corners!

I spent about two thousand dollars fourteen years ago. Weddings really cost what you're willing to pay for them...but the only part that matters is whether the couple has the money in question.

National average for a wedding is 30,000
We are really close to 5,000 for 150 people in Cleveland. It will be at a location, catered, with a limited bar (beer and wine free, liqour cash) and we're getting married in a church.
