Yeah I know i'm pretty ignorant about it all. I try not to get involved with talk about it since I don't know enough, but this just occured to me the other day. Is that (one reason) why people want to get out of Iraq, to "leave them alone" so they leave us/them alone?

I am interested in what you all have to say but please DO NOT lecture me on irrelevant things like the reasons why people want out, i'm just wondering about my question. (and I know there are other terrorists besides al-quaeda)

I just realise i'm not REALLY sure why they are attacking the US, UK, and others involved with the war. Surely it's not as simple as stop bombing them and they will stop bombing or attempting to bomb us?

I didn't think i'd need to do this after I THOUGHT I specifie, but I am talking specifically about al-qaeda terrorists and the recent plots and theats like JFK airport, liquid bombs on plane, subway flood etc.

I thought that even though it was about them being fanatical about their religion it was about us (the west) supposedly forcing it on them, that would go with the invasion.

But yeah..

oops I meant to say forcing our beliefs on them and trying to change them from their strict religious ways.

Earl etc. You are SO smart that you couldn't take 2 seconds to just write a reply but instead chose to attempt an insult. Kind of doesn't work that way

It depends a lot on how we leave.

First of all, even in the best case it won't completely stop terrorism because terrorists are operating in more than just Iraq. The worst thing we can do at this point is cut and run, because right now Iraq is in a lot of turmoil, and people who are unhappy about their situations are a lot more likely to listen to insane viewpoints (and therefore be recruited into terrorist organizations). Add to this the fact that the government of Iraq is not yet very strong and not well accepted by some sects, so if we leave terrorist organizations will be able to move in with much less opposition and set up operations.

What would be the best is if we can help the people of Iraq to set up their own fair, productive government, where everyone's life situation will be more pleasant. This is difficult to do even without mistakes or poor choices being made because many of the factions in Iraq have hated and fought with each other for generations, so it's what they're used to doing (just like children who grow up in abusive families are much more likely to abuse their own kids). Unfortunately, there is no easy answer that can be realistically implemented quickly and have a lasting positive effect.

No there were just as many threats before. However before the country was too wrapped up in who was sucking that president off.

Personally I'm starting to think Monica Lew-whatever was just a cover up so people would not know what was really going on in the world.

Khobar Towers
USS Cole
Embacy bombings
Korea shooting over Japan.
The list goes on. Including the one where Clinton order military members to have the anthrax vaccine because there was a threat made it would be used. And it was get the shot or get kicked out of the military.

The terrorism has been with us for a long long time. One of the world's famous statesman whose statue stands in the heart of London Mr. Nelson Mandela was called a terrorist. The only thing Iraq has done for terrorism is create a hot bed (A school ) for terrorism.
America did not go into Iraq to fight terrorism ,this has to be clear.
Bush said BRING THEM ON and they came.
Yesterdays terrorist in Iraq are Americas friends today.America is supplying heavy arms to people who were on the terrorist a few days ago.Bush's war policy with the support of UK as invited these attacks.

Yeah! and it will snow in Florida, during the Summer,if you believe that will happen and we have already seen proof that no matter what it is not going to stop it may get worst if the troops come back home and trust me I do want our troop back home I am a veteran myself and if you don't want to be lectured on this what did you ask it for especially when you have veterans responding to this.
I can't speak for the UK,but the U.S.it is well known that they hate the Bush, policies and the arrogance of the united States as to why they are hell bent on attacking and killing as many of us as they can.
I mean come out of your coma and follow the news,Internet, and television everybody who is anybody in this country knows why they want to hurt, attack and kill us at home or abroad were have you been hiding all this time!!

One of the things you have to understand, the terrorists will always have a rallying cry. If the US leaves Iraq, they will simply move to some other place and continue their activities. They have no other purpose, no other reason to exist except to try to kill or convert the entire world to their brand of Islam. They will not be happy until they drag the entire world population back to the12th century. Goodbye iPods.

To be honest no, the terrorism wont stop.

I know a lot of people wont like what i am about to say, and I fully expect a few thumbs downs for saying this; but its a truth that a lot of Americans really have to learn, and fast:

There are people and countries in the world that don't like America and Americans.

For some of those people, it's because that's what they are brought up to believe.

For the others that don't like America, its because America and Americans have a habit of really p*ssing people off at times.

No hassling you. Just simple facts. If we leave Iraq and Afghanistan, we no longer keep the terrorists busy there, so yes, they will come over here and kill civilians. I hate that our soldiers are being killed there, just as I hated that I lost friends while I was in Vietnam. However, I would rather have military casualties than civilian. We in the military KNOW that we are in harm's way

No, it will not.

On the other hand, staying in Iraq does not lessen the threat, either. If Bush is to be believed, numerous terrorist plots to attack the U.S. have been hatched and stopped before they were carried out. Obviously, judging by Bush's own words, the terrorists are not waiting to "follow us home".

Answer to the original part of the question, NO. I don't think so, terrorism started prior to Iraq occupation.

it's a religious war for them , they think we should die for what we believe or don't believe , it is their agenda to kill all that don't believe the way they do starting with their own then to the west . Ben Laden wants to start with the west is why he is such a threat , but the majority of the radicals want to conquer their own first . So yes at first we wouldn't be in that much of danger , but within time their clearly stated goals will become a major threat .
