17 is not too old for braces. I had a friend who had to wait until she had her kids raised and out of the house before she could get braces which put her in her 50s. If people look at you differently, it is their problem not yours! Go for it!

not too old at all. Honestly people don't really notice near as much as you would think. They usually spend most of their time thinking about themselves. Don't go around acting all embarrassed and all that, it's pretty silly to do that. People who smile look better than people who don't, braces or no braces. I would do everything to make sure your hair, face, clothes, everything else looks nice. I promise you will notice more than anyone else will. Some people might, but most people will probably think that you are taking care of yourself, and will probably think well of you for doing it, if they say anything at all.
I wouldn't worry about it. If you are attractive, you'll still be attractive. It really doesn't make that much difference. At least that's my opinion. Adults aren't the same as kids...

I wouldn't say so, I know two 19 year olds who have only just started with braces. I'm almost 17 myself, I have braces :)

Braces work best in children because after that the alignment of the teeth is fixed, so to speak. You still can have braces but the teeth will go back to the alignment it is used to. Having braces is looking like frankenstein, for any age.

the guitarist in my band is almost 21 and he just got braces.
But if you're self-conscious about having a mouthful of metal, you may want to look into invisalign- check out invisalign.com
this offers clear, plastic braces (they cover your entire teeth, not just bars over the middle) that are almost invisible, and work just as well as traditional braces for most people.

Trust me, you are not to old. A friend of mine got braces when she was 30. No one made fun of her. No one looked at her different.

I don't think so. I know people who are older than that and have braces. Hell, a counselor at my high school had braces, and she was probably 60. Still though, you shouldn't care what people think.

People get braces well into their 40's!
You'll be OK. No one should look at you funny.
