I have to say, both Old English and current English speakers alike would mock you for that.

ANYWAY, humans are animals. That's why I believe the human race is an animal. Here, look at a definition for animals:

Animals are a major group of organisms, classified as the kingdom Animalia or Metazoa. In general they are multicellular, responsive to their environment, and feed by consuming other organisms or parts of them. Their body plan becomes fixed as they develop, usually early on in their development as embryos, although some undergo a process of metamorphosis later on.

Sounds a leeeeeetle bit like a person, huh?

Luigi, human beings are animals because we share similar organic chemistry with all other life on earth. Human DNA is very close to other animals. Our physiology is similar to every other mammal. We are susceptible to diseases which can originate in other animals. The better question is how can you even consider that we are not animals -- simply because we are able to imagine our own imaginary creator?

Edit: Read the posting by Icarus62. Take your time and work your way carefully through all he has to say. That, my friend, is the truth, whether you like it or not.

Look at what we are made of, DNA.
The DNA that makes us up is something like 80% common across all life on Earth. That means the spider you see in the garden, the birds in the sky, the monkeys in the trees, humans are all at least 80% the same.
Its like lego. you build a model but all mdels are different but can be made of the same bricks.
There is something that sets us apart from animals, possibly self awareness, but we are made from the same bits. Thats why we are animals.

The American Heritage Stedman's Medical Dictionary (2002) defines an animal as:

"A multicellular organism with membranous cell walls of the kingdom Animalia, differing from plants in certain typical characteristics such as capacity for locomotion, nonphotosynthetic metabolism, pronounced response to stimuli, restricted growth, and fixed bodily structure."

Human beings are multicellular organisms with membranous cell walls, just like the organisms in the kingdom animalia. We have the capacity for locomation and a nonphotosynthetic metabolim. We have a pronounced response to stimuli. Our growth is restricted. Finally, we have a fixed bodily structure.

Looks to me like the glove fits.

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Primates
Family: Hominidae
Genus: H0m0
Species: H. sapiens
Subspecies: H. s. sapiens
See? Animals, Vertebrates, Mammals, Primates, Great Apes. I can't make it any clearer than that

Were absolutely animales. We share our strongest impulses with animals. We must eat, we must sleep, we fight, we look after children, we reproduce. All these things define us and they are exactly the same in all animals including humans.

Humans are animals in the sense that we have the same musculo-skeletal bio-chemical processes running in our bodies as other creatures of the earth. However, we are more than just animals in the sense that we are made in the image of God.
