O.K. This is probably way out of your price range but you did ask for the BEST. If price were no object my home theater sound system would consist of 7 Wilson Alexandria X2 speakers with Mark Levinson amplifiers and processors. With interconnects and wire you would spend somewhere around $500,000. If you are speaking of the best for us poor folks I would say M&K speakers with a Denon receiver.

The best sound will always come from a system you piece together. Those HTIB systems are garbage, a one-size-fits-all solution for those who want something average for only a few hundred bucks.
Get a good receiver and speakers instead and you'll hear stuff you never heard before. B&W, Axiom, and Deff Tech are good speakers; as well as Vienna Acoustics. This option isn't cheap, but it is light years beyond an all-in-one setup. And for the love of all things sacred, avoid bose like the plague! way WAY overpriced for what you get. That's why they spend so much on marketing; because the speakers cannot sell themselves. Good speaker manufacturers don't need to advertise much, if at all.

Hi there. It's impossible to say. Everyone has different requirements so i would need more information to even begin to advise you on what to get. What is your budget. How big is the room your system will be in .Will you be using a HD Widescreen TV or will you be getting a Projector and Screen.
Do you want a HTIB (home theatre in a box) or separate components working together.A home theatre in a box is a cheap and easy set-up with all parts made by the one company. They are just average low price units with usually below average performance which some people accept .Buying separate components of good quality will get you something much better even if you get one piece at a time if you can't afford to buy the whole lot together.Start with the best source you can afford (CD Player, DVD/CD Player, Turntable, Tuner)The quality of the signal coming out of these components defines what you will hear from your speakers.

Bose is good at advertising.
The "best" is always subjective, how much do you want to spend?
You can get "home theater in a box" for cheap ($300.00 - $1000.00) and if your standards arent too high, that should do it for ya.
If you want true high fidelity and to have the theater experience, higher quality components (more expensive) are whats called for.
You wont find it at the "big box" stores.

I just got the new Samsung 5.1 surround sound home theatre. it sounds great. Be sure to shop around, though no matter what brand you buy. Best buy and Circuit city will ALWAYS match each others prices (even un advertised) as long as they are listed on their websites.

Polk Audio LSI series speakers with an Onkyo TX-SR805 receiver should do the trick. It'll cost you about $2-3k for the speakers and $999 for the receiver.
