We keep our litter box in the bath tub in the downstairs guest bathroom because no one ever uses that tub or shower. It's not the best, but the only place out of the way that we have to put the litter box. At least, when it is all cleaned up, and the bathroom fan is run a bit after spraying a little air freshener, there is no lingering smell. Better yet, we just got a new litter box system called the Cat Genie. No smell. Self-cleaning. It's terrific! Got it through amazon.com.

Cats are normally very clean and fastidious animals in their toiletry habits. How-ever, there is always one who does not follow the norm. I have an 8yr old desexed female who has suddenly started doing the same thing, but then I do have 5 other cats as well. I am teaching her all over again to actually go into the box to do her poops rather than just beside it. It takes a lot of time and patience. Know when she normally goes for a poop, after eating is one, and follow her. When she starts to perform pick her up and put her in the box and stay there 'til she does her job. Another trick is to get a little stick and scratch in the litter to imitate the cat's normal behaviour. You say you keep the litter clean so that is not the cause. Do you have other cats? Competition for the tray and the different scents left behind can cause problems. My cat is getting the message and is responding well to my being behind her all the time. Do not keep moving the box as it confuses the cat, she likes familiarity. As I said, time, patience and training.

In my bathroom. I have an automatic cat box, which cuts down on the smell. Try using a little baking soda on top of the litter. It's cheap and a good neutralizer.

We have a basement, and that's where some go, but we've also got 9 cats! We've got boxes in the basement, one in my mom's bedroom, and more in our sunroom. I'd keep it in an open room with good ventilation, in order to keep down on the "cat box smell"

Also, you can try sprinkling baking soda or another scent absorber in the box every time you scoop it.

I used to keep it in the bathroom, but the door is usually closed and the cat can't get in, so, now we put the cat and the liter box in the basement. We clean it everday, and it doesn't really smell.

Well I used to have my cat's litter box by the dryer down stairs where it's cool and now it is in the photo room where my Dad takes pictures and it is warm in there a little cool too.

If you have a hallway, this is a good place. Where it is hot and humid, may eventually get your cat to not want to go there. They don't like the smell either. It needs to be well ventilated.

We keep ours on our balcony.

We have a sliding glass door leading to the balcony and it has a little cat door.

The cats love the little taste of outdoor life and the house never stinks, it was a lucky coincidence when we only set it out there temporarily while cleaning and it worked itself out.

Laundry room. Maybe you're not using the good litter. Use Fresh Step or Arm & Hammer.
