I wouldn't download it... not soon anyway. A lot of my friends have downloaded it, and co-workers have put it on their computers and I haven't heard one good thing about it. I guess if it's just a personal computer or laptop you want to upgrade, then it probably won't make a big difference, but if it's a computer you use for work or anything, I'd hold off and wait until all the bugs get fixed in Vista. It's hard to set things up and nearly impossible if not completely to connect things like printers and cameras and iPods to that you have previously used on the Windows XP version or others. Good luck!

Heres an answer I haven't seen. How about the best time to upgrade to Vista being when you have a real-world actual REASON to upgrade to Vista. Like, some new Vista-only app comes out and you just have to have it, or something along those lines. Why upgrade for the sake of upgrading?

Mac and the user friendly versions of linux have most if not more features than vista's and take up less system resources. It's pretty but it will take a bite out of your wallet. Ubuntu is free and mac os x is $124 so really vista seems like a waste of time and money.

I tell everyone to wait until Service Pack 1 is out. In your case there is no urgency and there may well be unknown bugs in Vista. There is little value in being part of the original user group who finds the weaknesses.
