My baby has eczema on his face, what would be the best treatment for a 6 month old. My doctor recommended that i use selsum blue shampoo 2 times a week for cradle cap which can contribute to the itching and use cetaphil lotion and cleanser as well. what do you suggest?

I suggest you take your baby to a doctor, a good one, most likely a dermatologist and ask him about it. Don't start experimenting with your baby with these over the counter meds. You baby is having an allergic reaction to something, it could be the formula, the food, it simply could be the milk. You might have to change the formula, the doctor can give the baby test for this. We've had eczema in our family throughout our child bearing years. Do your baby a favor and take it as soon as possible to a good dermatologist, you will be doing the baby a favor.

I'd try to go the natural route on an infant. Before a sponge bath, try rubbing baby oil on the scalp and forehead affected by the cradle cap. This loosens and lifts up the dry skin scales. Then gently wash the scalp with Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo or bath wash; the shampoo surfactant should wash away the oil remaining on the scalp, along with the dried skin buildup. Then put a thin layer of eucerin creme (not lotion) on the forehead and a little on the scalp to protect the layer of skin now exposed prior to sloffing off the dried skin.

Hope this helps! When in doubt, seek a second opinion with another peds doc.

When my daughter was small we tried everything but a Russian Doctor recommended for us to use Olive oil after every bath just rub it in gently. We saw a huge improvement

You could take the baby to a dermatologist for a second opinion, but meantime listen to the pediatrician...babies are very sensitive creatures...

Elidel works wonderfully! I am not sure about the age limits though. I know you can call the company for information... 800-742-2422. Good luck!
