With out knowing what your catapult is made out of or how it is designed I can't give you to much advice of how to improve it. I would suggest finding ways to change variables on it. Add a way to change tension settings and elevation. The fun with backyard seige weapons is tweaking and changing things till you get that great moment when a bowling ball smashes threw a wall. Also look at trebuchets which are also fun, and more advance. You can really do some damage with the accuracy of trebuchets.
