One transmission shop tells me I have no "computer" transmission controller another says Yes, I do.

One shop says, its "splines" are stripped, requires pulling out the entire transmission. Same for cleaning the "filter", another says NO, this is wrong.

One says my Ford transmission is really a "Mazda" transmission made in Japan, and that's why it is "bad".

Then another shop said everyone is wrong.

They say just pull off a hose going to the radiator and see if the transmission is "pumping". If its not, that will tell the story.

They say they will tow it in, and do a "free" estimate, BUT--, if I don't have THEM fix it after they tell me what's wrong---, or I can't afford it, THEN its NOT free!

Is the entire (transmission) industry NUTS like this?? Vague, misleading, and seems to border on criminal---, UNLESS you agree to spend between $1,200- $1,700 for a "re-build" job you may not need??

Sign me,
A very disappointed Florida Ford Escort owner.

I would avoid the chain stores like AAMCO etc. and find a small local shop. Go down and talk to the owner or manager in person and find someone you trust.

good luck

Don't listen to Crazyworld! While I agree that you are partly responsible for this current situation you both are in. Remember that SHE proposed this option to YOU not the other way around! That means where other women would laugh and think of it as a joke; SHE gave it some thought on the way home and decided to do it regardless she just wanted your approval! SHE crossed the fine line between ESCORT and PROSTITUTE remember Escorts don't have sex for money, Prostitutes do; the fact that she agreed to **** the client (She already broke one of The Escort Commandments so this didn't surprise me) shows how little she thinks of you and her marriage to you! When you said that SHE got her implants; without even discussing it with you HER HUSBAND shows that all respect she had for you is gone! The fact that it was bought by her client is just a slap to the face that's her saying "I belong to him now". That would make her his Lover if he's single, Mistress if he's married. You're nothing more than a Plushy toy for her something to comfort her after she's done my advice is to leave her she's made her choice and I'm very sorry to say its not you. Take it from me I've been a male escort for 2yrs and once the life style has you it never lets go and from what I've read she has it made a wealthy sugar daddy that can give her anything I'm sorry to say but from what I've seen and experienced she's never leaving the woman you once knew is gone.

Be very careful about the "free" transmission checks. A friend of mine did that some years ago. They tore the transmission down and told him it was going to cost a fortune to fix, he told them that he didn't want to have them do the job. They gave him back his transmission in a box, all torn apart. That was their way of punishing him for not letting them rip him off. Take it to a dealer and have them do the job. If not that, then to a trusted transmission repair shop. There are some out there. As for the national chain transmission places, I don't trust any of them. good luck.

I agree with FORDMAN. The dealer is best qualified to do this repair. And most trans guys would actually rather not have to pull it, if there is a simple fix they end up making more money in the long run. They get the diagnostic fee, and the fee to repair the problem, and move on to the next car. They make money and you save money. If it does need to come out, then they will give you the cost. Just bear in mind, if it does need to come out, they are going to quote a complete rebuild. This is done in order to warranty the repair. It is rather pointless to go to the trouble of removing it and tearing it down if your going to ignore worn clutches and bands and just try to slap it back together, as it will be back in a week with another problem.

You could get a Chilton or Hayes automotive manual and see what they say ,sometimes they a have trouble shooting section that might help.I agree with you as most of the country will, its really hard to find a honest shop anymore but I do believe you can find one if you look hard enough.Good luck to you.

If the experts say it's something simple then the only thing I can think of is that you need to check the transmission fluid level.

GEt a new car...if the tranny stops working...i dont care what they tell you, the cars got a year or two left tops! GEt a new car. When the tranny goes.....everything goes.

Tell both shops to stick it up their a$s. Cousin owns a transmission shop, says ford trannys dont hold up. FORD MAKES MAZDA!!! THE TRANNY MECHANIC IS A RETARD!

LISTEN TO WHAT TRASHY SAID!!!

DONT BUY FORD...DONT HOLD UP!!! GO TO FORD SITE!

YOU ARE BETTER OFF GETTING A NEW CAR...BOTH PLACES ARE LOOKING FOR YOUR MONEY AND KNOW THAT THE CAR IS ALMOST TOAST!
