I have had new neighbours since late october.
Now their not a problem as far as neighbours go but i do have a few niggles.
Should i tell them, because lets face it, it could be worse...
1. They have three dogs, they work all day and one of them sits and barks. Its not non stop but its annoying as you end up waiting for its next out burst. Dont get me wrong, i know dogs bark, but this isnt because something is outside or at the door, its just rythmic barking at various times of the day.
2. their bathroom is right next to my bedroom. Yes i can hear EVERYTHING that happens in there. Unfortunatly they get up alot earlier than i do, even on weekends and holidays. My young children dont even get up before them. So its banging of cupbouard doors, using and flushing the loo and so on. Then they proceed banging doors until they leave for work. Then the dog barks, lol.
So my dilema is i know their not neighbours from hell, but i would like the odd lay-in and peaceful day,

It would annoy me too. Next time you talk to them just mention how thin the walls must be because you can hear everything and say that they can probably hear what you're up to in your house too and you hope you're not too noisy, try a bit of reverse psychology, just try and drop it into a normal conversation. Perhaps they will take the hint or perhaps they don't realise that you can hear as much as you can. If this doesn't work then I would take a more direct approach and ask them in a non confrontational way if they could keep the noise down a little and give the reasons why and of course ask them if they realise how unsettled they're dogs are when they are at work. If they still don't listen you could even tape the dogs barking while they're at work for instance so they can hear it for themselves. If this doesn't do the trick and it's turning into an argument and the situation worsens then the only thing you can do then is to contact the department of the local council that deals with noise nuisance, and see if they will help you and maybe have a word.
Obviously you don't want to fall out with them as you have to live next door to these people every day, so if I were you I'd try the subtle, tactful approach first and then take it from there. I hope you manage to sort this out without too much hassle, in my experience, neighbours will generally take your concerns on board and try to keep the noise down, but obviously not all people are so accommodating so sometimes you might need a little support. All the best.

If you're on friendly chatting terms, you could slip into the conversation about how thin the dividing walls are on these houses, and how every sound can be heard! That might make them stop and think.
If they don't you might have to resort to reporting the noise nuisance of the barking dog, to the Environmental Health Officers. I'd do this as a very last resort though. Falling out with your near neighbour is not to be recommended.
You can't blame the poor dog for barking. It's bored. People who work all day SHOULD NOT have dogs.

I had a complaint from my neighbour about my dog barking. I had to get a collar for him that sprays lemon when he barks. You could put an anonymous typed note through their door telling them their dog barks during the day - they might not know since they are at work. If they know, they might try to improve. Or you could tell them next time you see them if you don't feel like doing it anonymously
Other than that, earplugs might help. I know how annoying it can be though - I lived next to a lady with a toy poodle once who barked non-stop.
Good luck - I hope you get some peace and quiet soon

Sam - I applaud your patience, but you need some peace and quiet. I used to live in a downtown area, the street noise and sirens made sleeping nearly impossible...until I started using a window fan to create "white noise" to block out unwanted sounds. The larger the fan, the more sound it will block out, the small table-top fans are not so effective.
In addition to the fan (especially for sleeping) there are many types of earplugs to choose from and they are available at the pharmacy or department store. They make a soft cushion type of earplug that comfortably expands inside your ear to block noise.
I offer these suggestions because I know they are effective. Even if you talk to your neighbors about their dogs barking, (and the banging doors) you can't depend on them to effectively stop the annoying racket. But you can always turn on the fan and block them out.

You could say something about the dog barking, but there isn't really anything anyone can do about the bathroom. You also have to wonder if you can hear them so well they can probably hear you too. I say save your money and move to a better place.

That's a tough one. Do they have children? If so, then i would imagine they will be understanding. If not, it could be trickier. As with most people its down to their personality and it might be good to try and get to know them for a bit before you bring it up . ?After all you'd rather get on with your neighbours than make things awkward. It's so unfair that the walls in a lot of places are so cheaply made and thin. I remember a funny way of actually soundproofing. It's sticking egg compartment cartons to your wall and plaster boarding over it. honestly it works but not practical.

good grief. The only thing is to mention it to them. But the other ways to drown out noise is to put up extra board with fabric to absorb the noises on that wall. Also, maybe start planning around the expected noise. because even if they don't bang the cupboard doors there' probably still some noise. Either play some of those envrionmental sounds CDs to drown it out. Or go to bed early and get up early so you won't be disturbed. Or take a good 20-30 minute nap the early evening, so you'll still get some sleep.

In any given situation, focus on what you do want your dog to do instead of on whatever he’s doing wrong. Learn how to train your dog https://tr.im/nuwH0
For example, suppose that on many evenings, your young dog gets busy looking for trouble just as you’re digesting your dinner. He grabs a boot from the mat by the front door and gallops through the house with it. You yell at him and take it away. He grabs its mate. You yell and take it away. He heads for the kitchen and starts checking out the counters in case something tasty’s been left behind. You chase him away. And on and on, until you’ve lost your temper and torn out clumps of hair you can ill afford to lose.

Just gently tell them about the dog's barking--not much you can do about the rest.
