Yes, actually, I do. I think we should get a /true/ look into Islam and the lives of Muslims. Neither should we be led to believe horror stories or that they ought to be put on a pedestal. I think we should know what this Islam is /really/ about.

Sure. I think this also applies to Hinduism and Buddhism, too. We also should probably try to get a handle on Chinese and Indian society generally, because they're going to be the two big up and coming nations in the near future.
Besides, you have to know something before you can evaluate its relative strengths and weaknesses, something that people do all the time with only the most cursory reading of the Qur'an.
We also should examine the common roots of Abrahamic faiths and determine whether or not we want those faith systems to dominate our future, or whether or not we ought to abandon them to a cold and desolate past.
All the best,
Lazarus

Absolutely. I think everyone should read the Qur'an before criticizing it, honestly. I don't criticize a religion until I've read its books - so far I've read the Torah and started the Talmud, the Bible, and the Qur'an (and some hadiths, though I usually just look them up online). I don't criticize Buddhism or Hinduism (for example) because I know relatively little.

I thought it would be a good thing to know more about Islam, so I read the Quran. It was rather disturbing. Now, I'm not sure if it would really be a good thing for Westerners to know a whole lot more about Islam. It might actually make more Westerners want to wage a war against all Muslims.

I agree. We also need to be aware that they want i to be the largest religion, maybe even only religion. I have met many wonderful Muslims, it is that those extremists are the ones that we all are scared of.

I know what I believe and whom I believe, but it is always good to search and read and know what all the other beliefs are about. You can never have too much knowledge. Every person would be wise to be well acquainted with all beliefs. JMO

Thank you for this intelligent question. Yes I do think that. The more we as Americans know about others and their beliefs the better we are as human beings. The more we know the better we are, and the better we can be.

Yes. But I get the feeling that it is they who have no desire to know us. When it comes to understanding one another, how does one over come their intolerance? And don't try to say that that intolerance doesn't exist.
