Do any Catholics, Christians or anybody that believes they can commit a sin know anything about this issue. My friend has been bugging me with this question cause he is catholic but he fears that if he masturbates he will be sinning. If I feel like masturbating I just do it I dont care I think it's just something normal we humans do but my friend dosent agree with my view. What is your take on this issue or your knowledge whatever input you give is no right or wrong answer I just want to know what you think.

It is considered a sin by Catholics, but is generally considered to be a "lesser sin". (They used to call it a "venial sin" vs. a "mortal sin", don't know if they still do.)

The idea is that you're being disrepespectful by "spilling your seed", but we now know that "seed" either escapes when you're asleep or is reabsorbed into the body. Sperm don't just sit around waiting for ten years until you want to have children. So I figure it's time for an update on that prohibition.

Glad you asked Jack!!!! LOL! Actually the sin committed in the scripture you are referring to was him not "finishing" as the Law at that time dictated. Long story, lol, have to read the entire chapter to understand. But disobedience, not "spilling" was the sin he committed. The reason that "masturbation is considered a sin by many is, that, usually you have to have some visual or reading material to help you along. Even if you use just memories, it all still involves porn in a certain way. Usually fantasies about other people which, according to the Bible, is a sin. So, the actual act itself isn't the real debate, it is how you "climb the mountain" to reach the apex. :) Thanks for the question, and have a great day!!!

Here are some Bible references to help you decide - Matthew 15:19; Romans 13:13; 1 Corinthians 6:12-13; Galatians 5:20-21; 1 Peter 4:3 feel free to read the verses before and after, these verses speak of sexual immorality. I would have to say yes without exception. Sex is deemed for marriage only so if it is outside of that bounds then it would be sin.

Well I don't really affiliate with any religion religiously (haha) but although I feel as if masturbation can be considered a sin, it has never stopped me. In my opinion, sinning can be forgiven by God (1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.") We all have to pick our battles (or sins) and decide how we want to live our lives. Who cares what anyone else thinks, God loves you unconditionally. Hope this helps.

If you feel guilty about something it's because there's something your not considering. Anyway, a great man once said that the sins made in the heat of the moment are not as sinful as the same sins done from premeditation. As a science student, I can tell you that the least you habit to a vice the better. Addictions are not good, sorry. Just don't kill yourself over it. Try not to hurt yourself or others. : )

Masturbation has been part of human life since the dawn of time...
It is perfectly normal and healthy...
Along comes a ridiculous religion and deems it a sin...
Well these same people who uphold this rubbish are the child molesters and the bent people who are now being held accountable for their crimes...
Blessed Be... )O(

According to Religious doctrine yes it is a sin. but according to me...self Gratification is perfectly normal and acceptable so long as no one is hurt or offended by said gratification. done in private or with a partner self-grat is a necessary step in sexual education and experience. If god didn't intend us to self gratify, it wouldn't feel so good. :)

oh and if you are married to a super model and are diddling the fiddle that is a sin. She might start dating one of the Yankees.

Just do it and shut up about it. 98% of all men do it and the other 2% lie about it. If it is a sin we're gonna have alot of company in hell.

The act itself isn't a sin. However, it can lead to sin. If you think of someone while you are doing it, that's lust, ergo a sin. If you do it just for self-gratification, it can become as an idol to you, where your life revolves around it, again, that's sinful. Sex is meant to be a shared experience between a husband and wife.

There is no prohibition spelled out in scripture against masturbation, but the principle is definitely there. For instance, the prohibition against fornication (sex outside of marriage) and Jesus' proclamation that if a man lusts for a woman in his heart, he has already committed adultery. There is also the story in the Old Testament about the man who took his dead brother's wife as his own, but spilled his seed (semen) on the ground; God struck him dead for this...
