The best way is to buy special feline nail clippers. Get the kitten used to being held on his back, by laying him in your lap and petting him. Then gently grasp his paw and apply pressure to his pad. When his claws come out, slip them above the pink. This is the quick, and if you cut it, the claw will bleed, much as if you cut your own fingernail too low.

Don't forget about his dew claws.

Reward him afterwards! Also, you can grab his scruff as you're cutting if he struggles. This may be a 2 person job.

hi
i had to clip my kittens claws when they were five weeks , i am still recovering from scratches they are now eight weeks old. what i did was use toe nail clipper must be new ones so they are nice and sharp, press gently on the paw to expose the claw and cut just they very tip off as kittens tend to climb more than adults. you may need to someone to help hold them as the can be wriggly if it is the first time that they have had their claws trimmed. be careful not to cut into the growing part usually pinkish red in colour. also teach them to use a scratching post by taking their front paws and stroking them in a downward movement on the post. i was lucky mum and dad cat showed my kittens how to use my scratching post.

Very easy. Hold your kitten, get it's nail out and just clip the tip. You don't need a special tool, just use a regular fingernail clipper. I've been clipping my cats nails since I've had him. If you are worried about him scratching they sell claw covers at your local pets store or at petsmart.com.

I have 2 kittens myself...and I have tried everything. Ive found that if you start cutting their nails at around 8 weeks old or whatever, they won't be soo apt to try and fight it. Most cats don't like to have their feet touched..so when they are young, start with when they are sleeping, touching their feet gently, and retracting their claws without cutting them...that will allow them to know that you aren't going to hurt them. As they get used to that...ive found that if I wrap my cats up snuggly in a blanket, start with one foot at a time. Only leave the paw that you are going to cut out of the blanket...and wrap the others up so they aren't able to fight it as well, and scratch you with their other paws. Eventually they will get used to it..but the blanket technique has worked great for me, and my kits don't mind it much anymore either!! hope it helps!! :)

The trick is to wait until the kitten is already relaxed or even sleeping. Gently push on her paw to expose the claws and clip only the very tips off. Don't try it when she's in a playful mood cause she won't hold still. Hope this helps.

Cat nail clippers should be just fine! There were even instructions on the back of mine, which helped me alot. Just get another person to hold her neck skin (doesn't hurt her, one of my cats even likes it) and do her front paws first, then her back. Just don't clip down too far, the dark part you can see near her toe is still alive. She'll let you know if you hit it...

A vet could help you. Or you could try it yourself, but it will be difficult. I would use finger-nail clippers and you have to hold the cat still and retract their claws. If your cat has dark claws, it will be hard to tell where the quick is. Good luck!

I use nail clippers for people, but not too short, so you won't get into the quick, if you do it when they are young it won't be a battle when they are older.
