This episode in the life of Jesus is recorded in 3 gospels (Matthew, Mark, John), and each one follows the feeding of the 5,000. Both Matthew and Mark report that "they" (the disciples) saw a "phantasma" (ghost, spirit, apparition). However, only Matthew reports on Peter walking on the water - not in fear, but in response to Jesus' announcement to their question.

I'm not sure what you are talking about but it could have been when he saw Jesus walking on the water. The wind and waves frightened him and when Jesus called for him to walk out to him (on the water also), his lack of faith allowed him to begin sinking. Jesus took his hand and helped him back in to the boat.

fear. Although it was Jesus on the water. What his mind percieved at that moment. That is why Jesus took hold of his hand. The point: stay focused no matter what storm comes at you.
