let me tell you, we just dealt with this problem this week and i feel for ya. a louse can lay 6-8 eggs per day and a louse can live for 30 days on a person's head. so it depends on how many and how long she has had them. this is what we did: we bought the over the counter crap from the drug store...don't bother with it....it doesn't work. lice have become immune to these treatments. follow this recipe: 3 TBS olive oil, 1 tsp eucalyptus oil, 1 tsp tea trea oil, 1/2- 1 cup cheap shampoo depending on how much hair you have. slather it on and put a shower cap over it(plastic bag will work). leave on for at least one half hour (i left it on for an hour). rinse out well being careful to not get it in the eyes. pick the nits every day repeating the above method ever 2-3 days or more often if needed until nits are gone. trust me, the nits will come right out with this. also neem oil acts as an insecticide but is all natural and not harmful to humans. you can try putting a little in the above recipe if you want. i am going to buy some and put some in a bottle of shampoo to use on a weekly basis for prevention(1 TBSP per 8 oz of shampoo). wash all the linens in your house. i have changed sheets on a daily basis and no one is sleeping together until the nits are all gone. the laundry is the worst part. everything must be washed in hot water and dried in the dryer. do not use the same towel on your head more than once and change your clothes after nit picking. vacuum your car and everywhere in your house. lice won't live away from a human head for more than 48 hrs, so remove stuffed animals and such and bag up for a few days. they have spray you can buy over the counter for upholstry and carpets, buy i am sceptical. i am vacuuming every day. we have enough combs and brushes for everyone and we are cleaning them in hot bleach water after every use. if you can't afford the above recipe, mayonnaise will work, but to me it was just yucky and you wouldn't want it to spoil on your head. flea/lice combs in the pet department at farm supply stores are far more effective than the plastic combs in removing nits. i have been checking my daughter's head 3 times a day, and everyone else gets checked thoroughly at least once a day. i know i sound fanatical, but this experience has my skin crawling...literally. if you need any more info, email me.

You will see all sortof of advice on how to get rid of lice and the different methods used to rid the lice ( and eggs) Try this. First, Wash all bed linens and clothing that's been recently worn by anyone in your home who's infested in very hot water 130 degrees, then put them in the hot cycle of the dryer for at least 20 minutes. . Have bed linens, clothing, and stuffed animals and plush toys that can't be washed dry-cleaned. Or, put them in airtight bags for 2 weeks. Vacuum carpets and any upholstered furniture (in your home or car. Soak hair-care items like combs, barrettes, hair ties or bands, headbands, and brushes in rubbing alcohol or medicated shampoo for 1 hour. You can also wash them in hot water or just throw them away. Because lice are easily passed from person to person in the same house, other infested family members will also need treatment to prevent the lice from coming back. Now on to your little girl. Eggs hatch ever so many day, and the one new louse ( lice) can start laying eggs with in a day, it's imparative that you keep up with this. Wash hair with Rid ( only if you haven't in 3 days) Then the next day put mayo on the head cover the head with plastic wrap and apply a dryer to the head for a moment to start the heating proccess. Then allow it sit on for a 4 hours. Make sure to apply a thick layer and make sure to make the plastic is tight. rinse out and shampoo hair with denorex. ( it's has coal tar and coal tar is what they use to use before they had rid) Latter, then let it sit on her head for 3 minutes. Rince and repeat one more time. Then use a a conditoner that has coconuts in it. like suave. comb through to get any extra nits out. The doctor explained this..The older nits will have been killed due to lack of oxygen, however new nits can survive the treatment because they do not need oxygen the first few days to survive. Do this ever three days. (the third time or 9 days, the lice will be gone.) THE KEY TO SUCCESS IS REPEAT TREATMENTS. When you do a treatment, make sure to wash the beding and vaccum ever three days.

unfortunatly, theres no telling. ive heard of children with un-treated lice getting hundreds of bugs removed, along with a few hundreds nits. you just have to keep treating it weekly until there is NOTHING left. just a tip, dont use the chemical pestisides like nix or rid on your child or even another adult or yourself. its pointless and harmful...want the tried and true and best method all around? put regular hair conditioner in dry hair. i swear it works, better than any chemical treatment, and its harmless. use a ton of conditioner, and run through it with the little nit combs, it kills the bugs almost instantly, and slides the nits right off the hair, which even the most expensive pestiside wont do. put it on and let it sit about ten minutes, then comb through it. you just need to repete it every week for two weeks just to make sure, then if its a continued threat, do it every couple of weeks as a preventative measure. good luck.

The numbers depend on many things. How long the infestation has been going on and how many louse's is in the hair. I have found that washing the hair in nix's according to the directions and then using a robie comb works the best. But it takes two weeks of using a robie comb everyday. But it works.

I say if you even think for 1 second that your child could have lice...go buy some NIX or something like that...and give a small treatment. you might also spray your house with lysol or other sanitizer.

When I had it, I tried counting as my mom wiped off the comb, but it was too hard. There are at least 20-30 lice and probably 100+ nits on one head.

there are tons after you have done their hair and cleaned the house and bedding ect try putting tree tea oil in there hair. I did that for my daughter and the lice/nits don't like the tree tea oil. You can get it in oil and in a shampoo I used both put shampoo in hair and left it for about 10 min and then rinsed it out then every day to every two days I would put tea tree oil in her hair and just leave it there

Hundreds! and the eggs are HELL to get them OUT! ... Boys are so much easier to do it cuz they can simply shave them off but GIRLS nope!
My daughter had that problem last year and I was so upset about it and called the school about it ... Few kids got send home cuz of lice/nix ...
It came back few times and I kept trying to get rid of them did everything to get rid of ... I later found out few weeks ago that 3 of the neighbor kids (they're siblings) has them! The mother isn't doing anything about it so they aren't allowed in our home at all until they get them out of their hair ... My daughter told them to get them done but they wouldn't saying its too much work ...
Try to find out who is giving your child the lice ...

too many. if infestation has happened, coat your head with olive oil, place in a cheap shower cap over night, use a metal nit comb, then wash with dish soap. this is way better than the shampoos and less costly and much safer, especially to children. it really works.
