ok, i am going to through this exact thing right now except my fiance is from lebanon. first off i will tell you that it does not take a year, it takes a MAXIMUM of 6 months or possibly less. First you have to be a US citizen and you have to file for a I-129F in the US. After you fill out the I-129F (both you and your fiance) you either can get a lawyer to send it to the USCIS or you can do it yourself. ( I recommend a lawyer, it might cost more but it helps alot). While it is at the USCIS office they will either approve or deny your petition. If they approve it, you will get a NOA1 (notice of Action) telling you that your case has been forwarded to the NVC (National Visa Center) where it will then be sent to the embassy in your fiances country. When the NVC recieves your case you will recieve a NOA2. ( Make sure you save all documents). When the papers are recieved at the embassy in your fiances country, she will be notified to pick up a packet of papers from the embassy that she has to fill out and when she is finished she will have to e-mail the embassy and then they will schedule and interview date and if she is approved at her interview she will be issued a visa. In addition... yes you have to have met within the last 2 years and you have to have evidence that proves it. both you and your fiance will have to submit passport photos to the USCIS and make sure there are NO MISTAKES in your papers because that take extra time. I am not saying that all of this is going to happen within a month but ilhamdillah it has been going at a great pace for me. I hope this helped!!

first question, is if you are an American citizen, you have to be before you can get her here on a fiance visa. My husband was Canadian and we got his visa in about 4 months. It is called a K-1 visa and the time that it take really depends on which processing center you have to send it to. Make sure you give them as much information on the two of you as possible. As others have said you have to show proof that you have met and as much proof as possible that you plan on staying together. We submitted pictures, the receipt for the engagement ring, love letters that we had written each other over the years, pictures of me with his parents and vice versa. We were able to tell them the exact date, time and place we wanted to get married.
As far as the free ride, I'm not sure what you mean but if you are asking if it is cheap to get the visa...NO. You have to pay to submit the visa, once she is allowed in you will have to pay for an adjustment of status. If she will work you will have to apply and pay for a work visa. Also, you will have to be her sponsor and submit all types of financial information, check stubs, proof of assets, bank statements, etc. You have to be able to prove that you can support her being here without her working.
The link below may help you, it can be a long tedious process. Good luck.

You have to fill out an I-129f for her.You must have met in person two years before filing. There will be no free rides because the process will cost you about 700usd just so she can get her visa.Depending on the activity in her country's consalate,it should take 6 months or more.Keep in mind that immigration is running behind as ususal and just processing applications from November 2006.

Find a fiance, not for an act but for real love. Fall in love, meet and document every communication and moments together (You need proof that you meet personally). Then get your fiance to petition you. The one who should file for petition is the one who is trying to bring their fiance to their country, and not the one who would be moving.

Have you guys met in person? It is very important that you have to prove that the relationship is valid and you guys really intend to marry. She would have to fill out a couple of forms and you would have to go back here to the US and file for a petition. It usually takes about a year for the entire process. All expenses would be shouldered by you, and in your petition, you would also be asked to fill out an Affidavit of Support. For more detailed info and for the forms that you need, visit the websites I would provide. Goodluck!!
