No. It is more humane than keeping her chained to a corner of the yard. I have a golden retriever that started to re-landscape my yard, too. Cayenne worked great for me.
Unless your puppy is completely lacking in taste buds (and considering that these lovely creatures think cat poop is yummy), she will learn to associate digging with pepper.
She may also be digging because she is bored, hot, etc. Does she have a few toys she can play with around the yard, and a doghouse and a water bowl (kept out of the sun)?
This is also a great age to teach her 'No!'.

Some dogs dig because they like to and some dig because they are bored. While the poop in the hole may work. Try to give your dog some new toys in the yard to entertain him. When there is a day that you are home put him in the yard and go inside the house. Now, you have to have time to watch and be vigilant. Every time your pup starts to dig holler out and scold or say "No" or "Ah, Ah, Ah" loudly. then go to a different window or door and do it again the next time he starts to dig. your pup will begin to think and know that you can see him from anywhere you are and will learn that this is not acceptable behavior. Most of the time it is just that you pup is bored and needs something to do so they dig. Good Luck :O)

No its perfectly fine. Its just spicy stuff that will irritate the dog but it wont harm it. Cayenne pepper is reccomended by trainers and vets so its quite safe.

No. We used to use this for both of our dogs and it never hurt them. Trainers will tell you to use it. But if she is diging in different places in your yard you will need a lot of it lol. If you have a wal-mart near you they sell it in large spice bottles for $.50 a bottle.

It won't help. Bring her in the house. She's bored and digging for entertainment.
Don't chain her to a dog house:

If your dog is digging up your yard, you're going to need ALOT of pepper. Go to a pet store and get a shock collar. Put it on your dog and follow the directions. When you see her start to dig a hole, give her a little zap. She'll get the message.

I think that would be harsh. I know of a better way that really helps. You put her poop in the hole and put grass/dirt over it and she will NOT dig again. Good luck!
