I like analogy...

A vicar was on a train, reading God's Word, when an astronomer approached him and said, "You know, all we know about God can be summed up by, 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.'" The vicar answered, "Yes, and all we know about astronomy can be summed up by, 'Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are.'"

God is God. Many people interpret the Bible differently, or believe in different Bibles and that is where all your different religions come from. Religions are man made...belief in God is totally different. Religion will take you no where, you have to have your own relationship with God.

God sends messengers throughout the passage of time to point towards God and move closer to God. The messages are modified for the culture.

Time and space modify the message. That is why there is one God and many religions (a religion based upon the message given at a time for a culture).

There are actually millions of gods throughout the world. In Hinduism, for instance, there are over 1,000 gods alone!

As for the many different religions, it is my belief that men, in their attempt to develop a close relationship with their gods, have created various rites and rituals, doctrines, and other things that, together, make up a religion.

because everyone sees things differently, and interprets texts differently. Every religion seems to start with a leader with a new vision or interpretation who then gains followers who accept it as truth, and with a little time & effort, you have a new religion. (see Luther, Zwingili, Calvin, etc. in Christianity)

And if you're Christian, Jew or Muslim, you believe there is only one god, but not everyone sees that. Hindus & Buddhists, for example. That's why I'm phrasing it this way.

Actually there are many Gods... but as for why religion is all so different it is simply because people can never agree on one thing...

many religions believe in the same God but believe he does different things. Some religions believe that there are many gods, also known as polytheism. Jewish worshippers believe that God has actually yet to come on Earth, while Lutherans, catholics, protestants, etc. believe that he has already come. Catholics and Lutherans both believe in the same God, but believe in different ways of worshipping him. so while some religions might believe in the same God, they may have different principles to follow or subtle beliefs that differ, or maybe different ways to worship him.

You're probably thinking about the Abrahamic faiths: Judaism, Christianity & Islam. Yes they worship the same God albeit very differently. From what I've seen the different prophets made all of the difference and previous faiths didn't accept the new prophet and convert. Jews didn't accept Jesus, Christians didn't accept Muhammad, etc.

Most of your respondents have the right idea. God is one and His word is not for private interpretation. We have to have the inspiration of the Holy Ghost to understand His word. When we rely upon our own wisdom for privated interpretation, the result is the myriad sects, religions and modes of worship that we see in the world today. We need to rely upon true prophets and private revelation of truth to find the one and only true doctrine. If we tune into that spiritual source of truth, we will all get the same answer.

there are only 4 monotheistic religions... do the math

buddhists, no deity
pagans/hindus, millions of deities

there's many religions because people don't agree on God. I just say let Him do the talking.

religions are man made- there is ONE GOD and He created us to have a personal relationship with Him, that is why He sent Jesus- Man made up religions to try to find God. God created man for a relationship with Him through Christ
