This female never has a convulsion when she is in the yard and or house. but when let out she goes into a seizure, lays down, stiffens out, foams at the mouth for approximately 3 min,s and returns as herself. It only happens when she is turned out or I have to take her somewhere. No pranksters, I love this dog.

Sorry to hear that :( My dog also had a seizure while I wasn't at home. When I arrived at my house her head was somewhat tilted & she was extremely off balance. She would try to stand & she would fall down :( I took her to the vet and he prescribed her dexamethasone. He said that her seizure was most likely caused by an inner ear infection. So, you might want to check that out w/ your vet & see what he/she thinks. My dog is doing great by the way :D Head tilt is gone & her balance is back to normal :D I hope your dog gets better!!

Veterinary use

Combined with Marbofloxacin and Clotrimazol, dexamethasone is available under the name Aurizon , CAS number 115550-35-1, and used to treat difficult ear infections, especially in dogs.

My mom and I rescued an American Eskimo who was about 6 years old...we had her for about 9 months when I woke up one morning to see her laying next to my bed in the throws of a grand mal. She ended up being put on phenobarbitol (sp?).
She still had seizures, but they became less frequent and less severe. Definitely talk to your vet about the possibility of epilepsy and preventative care. Your dog could have epilepsy and being let out and taken places could just be too much of an active stimuli and that's why you see it then.
Our dog passed away last year at the age of 16 and still acted like a puppy, so dogs with epilepsy can definitely live wonderful and loving lives. So don't let yourself get to overwhelmed...there will be some changes in your dog at first if medicated, but their personalities shine through pretty quickly in my experience.
Good luck to you guys :)

They have medications for your dogs condition. It seems like when she gets to excited she goes into seizures. That's not good but you need to take her to a vet cause some dogs have gone blind from seizures. You'll have to spend alot more money on her hospital bills in the long run if you don't get it taken care of now.

Oh my...have you taken her to see the vet? I too have a female American Bulldog. I havent seen any thing like this in her. I wonder if epilepsy can happen to an animal? You might want to look into that....I really hope she snaps out of it or you find a diagnosis for her.

oh and totally off the subject but does your AB resemble a pit? A lot of ppl think mine is a pit but she is a registered AB.
Email me.

Make sure that there are no toxic pesticides or other dangerous chemicals that she could have access to. Is she possible eating something that could be making her this ill? Are there mushrooms or other possibly dangerous plants in the area? Take her to the vet to make sure that no permanent damage has occurred and be sure to have her tested for possible toxins. Any kind of poisoning can have LONG TERM AND PERMANENT affects on her organs and could lead to death. Make sure to keep her on a leash and control her access to what she eats while she is outside. If you can't stop her from picking up things in the yard/road/etc. it may be necessary to put a basket muzzle on her when you are walking her. Please, please, please be sure to find out what is causing this reaction and get her medical attention ASAP.

my last dog had seizures, i thought they were panic attacks (i really had no idea). when i took him to the vet, he actually had one so the vet understood what was happening. for your pet, since it only happens at certain times, i would try to record it or take a picture for your vet, write down as many details as you can.

my dog was put on medication, and no longer had seizures.

i understand how scary it is, i really wish you and your dog all the best.

If she isn't allergic to something than it is a seizure. I myself am epileptic, and dogs can have seizures as well. There are seizure meds to treat them with but I'll warn you now. anti-consultants are expensive.

Yes, your dog can have epilepsy, you should get to a vet for the correct medicine for it. Sounds like stress could be a trigger for it.
