When the time comes, the sun will become a red giant and expand so large that it will envelope the earth. Given the relatively short time complex living species survive (tens of millions of years, at best), humans will be extinct long, long before then (five or six billion years).

Scientists have found that there is a planet similar to earth...it has its own sun, living conditions, right temperature, atmosphere, water in its liquid state..
But the problem is that it is 10.5 light years away from here!
So, here is a big need for transportation that can take us there...
And then we will have to spread all that technology there!
So, its not easy at all
And i think before the sun will die...Global Warming, Pollution will kill Mother Earth!

To another star system. The sun has a few billion years left to it. By that time, humans should be capable of travelling to other star systems and by that time we should have found some that have habitable planets.

When the sun dies the world will burn up (the sun gets bigger as it dies) - humans will be gone long before then - due to lack of land space as the ice melts.
Lack of land space will cause endless conflicts between humans fighting for the land. (That`s one of the problems of global warming.)So we would of distroyed ourselves by then anyway.
Something to look forward to is`nt it

I thought it was in 6 billion years. Reading Gazoo's answer scares me because it docks another billion off the earth's lifespan. I can handle dying in 6 billion, but not 5 billion. I hate to be a cynic but I doubt humans will be around at that time anyway. We will find a way to destroy ourselves by then.

I doubt that we will still be around by then. Most species become extinct in much less time than that.
I suspect that if we do not get off this planet and out of the solar system way before then some other force will get rid of us. (Plague, famine, asteroid strike, solar disturbance, etc.)

The way things are going....its a problem we will never have to face as the human race will have destroyed itself long before that happens.

If we're around then, we'll be in the Sun.
Before it dies it will expand as a Red Giant before collapsing into a dwarf star. When it expands, its circumference will emcompass the Earth's orbit.

Space, probably. Since it won't happen in the next million years, I think we have enough time to develop some distant planet to live on, or just space stations further out.
